OT: what a weekend

Saturday I fell and hurt both of my ankles. I spent the remainder of the day icing them. Sunday I had a group of 20 people over for the afternoon, and I spent the morning doing up the food that I was supposed to make on Saturday. So this morning I figured it was time to go get them checked out. Painfully, I drove myself over to the hospital (took me 5 minutes to walk out to the garage and get the darned car!) So when I got there I decided to park in one of the handicap spots. I have two sprained ankles and Yup, you guessed it - a $300 parking ticket. :-( I went over to the bylaw office and the fellow said if I bring him something from the hospital saying when and why I was there, he MIGHT tear up the ticket. Keep you fingers crossed!!!

Oh Norma, I am so sorry that you've sprained your ankles! Both at the same time... when you do something you do it all the way, don't you? *hug*

I do hope that the bylaw officer does what he says and tears up the ticket. You had a legitimate reason for parking in the handicapped spot.

I have a card for my window to park in the handicapped spots because sometimes my Fibromyalgia and arthritis make it difficult for me to walk too far. But on good days when I feel like I can manage, I park in further spots knowing that someone else could need the space more than I do that day. I would happily give up a handicapped spot for someone with two sprained ankles.

Good luck with the bylaw officer!

I've been known to speak to people and ask if they have a handicap to justify using those spots. I sure wouldn't normally! Of course the ones who are normally honest seem to be the ones to get caught. LOL

Hi Norma,

Oh, you poor thing and on top of it you had to still make the food and entertain people. I don't know how you did it.

Now, that bylaw guy should tear up that ticket. Yes, I have a handicap tag too that I use only when Tom is with me as it's in his name only. When I'm by myself I'm like you Gem, park and walk and let someone who needs it use it. In fact if Tom is with me and isn't going into the store, I do the same thing. Every once in a while some of the local malls will have the police go and give out tickets, but they aren't that expensive when they should be.

Hugs,

Nora

Norma, I'm so sorry to hear about your injuries. Now just try to keep your feet up until the ankles are better. Cheap bags of frozen peas or corn work well for getting the swelling down. Just don't eat them later. :-)

Thanks. LOL Tante Jan, I have a bag of peas that I use. It is helping to get the swelling down.

That is so true, Norma! Last year before my doctor gave me the form to get a card for my windshield, my back and legs were wreaking havoc with me very badly one day while I was in the city. I parked in a fire route area that is *always* used by so many other people including taxis, as I made my way into the bank to use the bank machine to pick something up at the grocery store on the way home. When I came out there was a ticket on my windshield for $50. which I could not afford. I went to the bylaw office to explain what had happened and that I had been at the bank machine for less than five minutes. The main guy wasn't there and the woman in the office said she couldn't do anything about it, so suggested that I call the next day. I did and spoke with him, but it turned out that he was only in charge while the head woman was on holidays and he couldn't change it either, but suggested that I call the following week to talk to her when she came back.

I did, and told her the whole thing about what medical conditions I had and that I NEVER EVER normally park in fire routes or handicapped areas because after looking after my Mom for ten years and now with the way my problems can make me unable to walk far somedays, I know how important it is for those areas to be left free. She told me to tear up the ticket and she would do the same with their half of it.... and made me promise not to do it again.... which was no problem because I don't normally do it anyway. Now that I do have my card, I still only use it when I *really* need to.

But it does drive me crazy to see so many people park in the fire routes at all of the malls, and young healthy teens parking in the handicapped spots when they don't want to get wet when it's raining out. AWWWW, poor things.... you're healthy.... run to keep from getting wet!

It's only been fairly recently that I've notice the postings on the handicapped spots that say "$300. Fine". I don't remember there being an actual notice of how much the fine would be before. I'm glad they started doing that.... maybe it will deter some people from abusing the handicapped spots.

Oh, and on *really* good days (it's been almost 2 months) I will actually park at the very back of the parking lot and walk. I love walking and really wish I could do it like I used to.... nice long walks were my favorite thing to do, especially on summer nights.

If anyone should need to have oral surgery, bags of frozen peas, peas and carrots, or corn work wonders on your face. But, as Jan said, don't eat them afterwards.
