Toilet Tank Cover Question

After having moved from dry Southern California to damp and wet Pennsylvania (and still loving it) I am experiencing my toilet tank condensing water onto my bathroom floor. Coupled with this, the bathroom also houses my dryer, so it makes the problem worse.

My questions are if a thickly padded toilet tank cover would help insulate the warm moist air from the cold air inside the toilet tank and if so, could someone give me an idea as to how to make a cover, including ideas on how to cut out the handle hole.

You can reply to me personally by removing the "NOSPam" in my address. Thanks!

At one time they had tank liners that you could buy. Don't know if they still exist, cause most tanks you can buy here are already lined.

The tank liners were thin sheets of Styrofoam which were glued to the inside of the tank. I agree with JJ that a tank cover would just add mold to the equation. Sorry I couldn't be more help, Laura

Beth, the dingus you want is called an "anti-sweat valve", and here's one:

-- you probably won't find them at Home Depot type places, butreal plumbing supply houses stock them, as do most plumbers. Interior insulation helps, but it's a PITA to put on, and I'm not sure what it would do to the flushing qualities of a low water use fixture.

Glad you found your solution. I wouldn't wait until it smells musty, why allow mold spores to form in the laundry room. Since it is near your washer I'd just wash it veery frequently. Since you wwere able to make it at nominal cost why not make a back up. That way you can slip a clean one on instead of waiting for the 1 to dry. JJ who has packed up the sewing and is packed and ready to leave first thing in the morning for sand anad sun.... I hope.

How about an inexpensive de-humidifier in the room?
