Which colors Dennis ? mirjam
Hello Mirjam,
Mostly fall colors and a lot of off white. A little light blue.
I am going back to pick up some baby weight yarn. There are a few more colors left. The worsted weight was pretty much looked over. A lot of browns and greens.
I will have enough your for the next 5 years and I use a lot of yarn over a years time.
What are you working on.

You don't happen to live near the San Francisco Bay Area, do you? ROTFL
Nope. If I did, you could have more that you will use in several years!

Katherine: If you really are not going to use it, why not check around with local churches to see if any of them has a kniting ministry? I know in the Anglican church we have Missions to Seamen, which includes "Christmas at Sea" where we knit caps and scarves, send them to a designated port city where they are packed in with other gifts, and given to sea captains who will be at sea over Christmas, for them to give out to the crew on Christmas morning. Also, there is the "Prayer Shawl" ministry, where people knit shawls to be given to those who are in "trouble, sorrow, need, sickness or any other adversity". I know that after Katrina, churches all over North America sent prayer shawls to the local branch of their denomination, and they were given out to those who had lost everything they owned in the flooding. I assume the same thing happend in Cedar Falls after the floods last year.
Last year, I found a lot of yarn in an estate sale, and bought it up for our knitters. I dropped off 63 skeins of yarn in the knitting closet, and by Christmas it had all been knitted up into caps and scarves. Remember, a lot of the knitters are older retired folk on fixed incomes, and yarn is expensive. If you are not going to use yours, please don't bury your treasure underground, give it to God and She will make use of it.
lots of higs
Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.
Thanks for the suggestion, Mary. Actually, I am now the minister at a Presbyterian Church here, and it seems that there is no knitting ministry. I plan to start one, but not immediately. However, I think that there are several homes (institutions) for seniors who may be able to use it. And I have a minister friend in Montreal whose wife and sister-in-law do a knitting ministry, so I am filling some boxes for them. It just breaks my heart not to be able to use it! I am keeping the sock yarn, because I only wear handknit socks, and I am starting to convert Keith as well! But most of the worsted weight will be gone soon, and a lot of the sports weight as well.

We have one of the busiest church knitting groups I have ever seen. They were just donated 170 skeins of yarn. It will not take them long go go through it..

How wonderful to hear about the donated yarns and people still giving to others through the different charities.
Let's not forget the animal shelters for the yarns that may be questionable.
