Ultrasonic cleaners for beads

Does anyone use these on their beads for a final clean?

Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

I have used one to clean Indian beads that are full of bead release. Cleans them quite well.

I have also put beads in a mesh container in the dishwasher. I have a theory that if it is going to break it will break in there so no harm done Shirley

I have one on order, and plan to do some tests with different solutions and different brands of bead release.

I just checked my front porch a minute ago, and it's still not there, LOL!

I'll let you know the results, and if it works well, I'll post a link to where I found it.

Please do and thanks!

I had wondered if one would be good for the final rinse as it were.

I'll keep an eye out for your report.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner for old crystals and other assorted vintage stuff that comes from tearing apart old estate sale jewelry. Instead of a solution, I just use dishsoap. Then I put the beads in a big tea strainer and rinse them with tap water till the soap suds are gone, and put them on a towel (out of kitty's reach) overnight. It works wonderfully! Chris

A few months back I did a post on wetcanvas about my ultrasonic and bead cleaning experience. If you can handle all the jibberish, there is quite a bit of info here on the use of the ultrasonic for beads. On page 4 or 5 of the post I put in pics of my experiments - and the results. Here is the link to the beginning of the thread -

- I think you will find it useful. I have used the following cleaners in the ultrasonic - vinegar, coke, pepsi, limeaway, professional dental cement cleaner, efferdent tabs, and a ton of others....but as of this date coke has been the best! One of the bead ladies even traveled 3 hours to see the ultrasonic work :) - the one thing you may find - some beads will come out of the cleaner and it looks like the release is still in the bead, but a quick swipe with a roughed up mandrel will remove all the residue - thats all there is to it. I make about 300 beads a week - sometimes more, and all of them are cleaned by the ultrasonic - I then load about 10 beads on a roughed up mandrel and run them up and down - just once - maybe twice the mandrel - and bingo! Thanks for the link! I've heard Coke will clean almost anything. I'll read through the thread asap.

Do you sell them all, or use them for your own jewelry? (Or hoard them like a dragon?)

clients for special orders or website orders, some go into a bracelet or two for our local pet rescue fund raisers, some go to friends and some go to a bead store near me, and then there are the one's that get hoarded :).
