adhesive for template pieces--ideas?

I was playing around with my new memory card that also has included several templates for my embroidery machine. The card, No. 9, says that in order to do the design I want, I need to trace a template, cut it out, then use adhesive to fasten it onto the main piece before it's appliqued. Has anyone done this before, and if so, what kind of adhesive should I use?

I was thinking I could use fusible web, but that would mean taking the item out of the hoop to fuse it, and I don't want to do that. I was also thinking of a fabric glue stick, but I think that's too gooey.

Thanks for your help.

I use doublesided tape from the dollar store. It is very thin and is easily removeable from the fabric (BUT NOT THE TEMPLATE) and the same piece can left stuck on for many uses.
