brother ult2003d embroidery machine

Well, I did it! I ordered the machine with Origins software off of Ebay for

2999.00. I am so excited and can not wait until it comes in the mail. The only thing I am worried about is how hard the software is going to be without any dealer support. I saved myself over $1000.00. I think I can find someone to help me out for less than that. I have called around the local dealers and no one has classes on this program. Can anyone tell me how difficult this program will be to learn? I am not ready to digitize yet, so that can come along later.

Doing a happy dance! Sandy

It may run like a top when you open the box------try it first........you can always have it adjusted if it needs it.

Not necesarily! It may run great but will probably need a few adjustments over the next year or so and every couple of years after that.

What are NEB bobbins please?

They are pre-wound bobbins. All you do is pop them into the bobbin case and go! Nana

These are normal Singer style bobbins with a casing (cardboard), only prewound, right?

Is NEB a brandname?

Yes that is one brand name. You have to get the right size for your machine. There is a company called Ziegler Embroidery Supply. They are very nice. They have a store on E-Bay. Send them an e-mail and tell them the kind of machine you have. I am not affiliated with them, just a happy customer.

Wish I had gotten another brother instead of the bernina 185e, sniff, sniff. have a 4K machine that goes out of tension if it is sewed for an hour, embroidery is fine but 4k was too much for just embroidery. Will have to wait a couple of years to trade it in on another brother.. DH just paid this one off. The person who said Bernina 200E is complicated to use was right, it is a pain; there seem to have been a bunch of bugs them. I did not get the promised lessons from my dealer when I bought the 185e . Pfaff dealer scheduled lessons as soon as I bought my machine (and it was the very basic Life Style -- great for quilting). I can get my bernina lessons there for $200. ouch. Emailed Bernina about the problems and they were not much of a help. Had no way to directly send machine to them for check up.

So for my 2 cents and sour grapes, get a Brother not Bern>You are right there my friend has just returned her Bernina 200E because it

My Pfaff, Brother dealer told me to use the plastic sided in my Brother and cardboard in my Pfaff. For what that is worth. s

I have a Bernina 153 and a 200. Love them both. The 200 is not complicated at all. Everything you need to know is in the manual and on the screen. If your dealer is not giving you the lessons, try to find another dealer in your area that does and get a certificate of transfer. If your machine it not staying in tension, then there is something seriously wrong with it. INSIST on talking to the tech person and get it fixed. Again if that doesn't work see if another dealer will help. DO NOT give up calling Bernina. There is a toll free number to call for customer service. As far as bugs, most were fixed with the update last spring. The new update just enhances the experience and alot of them were suggested by us, the consumers. I am not an employee and I have had my issues with the dealer too. I have had many SM in my life and I absolutely think these are the best that I have used. Not Affiliated in any way with Bernina. Sorry to be so long winded. Nana

I agree with Nana. I recently sold my Bernina 160 and upgraded to a used

180E (completely upgraded of course). I LOVE my machine. It does everything I would have expected. The stitching is absolutely perfect. If you have a problem with yours I again agree with Nana...take it back to the store you purchased it from and insist that they fix it.

p.s. Oh, yes...maybe only "little" complaint with the 180...the bobbins are a "tad" smaller, but a small price to pay for all the advantages the machine has.

Yes, you have to use only Bernina bobbins, but I personally think it is a small price to pay for its other advantages. I "really" like that I can resize my designs directly on the machine and it will automatically adjust the fill stitches.

Every machine has its good points and bad points and sometimes it's just a matter of "feeling" right for the individual stitcher. There are many quality machines out there and I think they all do a wonderful job.

My Bernina dealer is less than a 5 min drive from my front door and they give me wonderful service. This had a lot to do in my decision in purchasing my machine. I was also leaning towards another brand machine but that dealer was over an hours drive away. Who knows, If that dealer was a 3 min drive, I may have just chosen them ;-)

I don't like to "dis" other brands, but will be happy to sing the praises of my machine. I honestly think they are all good machines. Some of us drive Chevy's an some of us drive Fords, but as long as you get to where you need to go, who cares how you get there?

I bought 1 dozen bobbinsfor my 200 and that is more than enough to run the machine for a long while. If you look closely at the bobbins they look very much like universal ones, but are machined better. The edges are rolled and very smooth and the middle is textures to grab the thread when winding so you do not have tails sticking out.

My dealer is cross town and easy to get to also. Lots of classes are offered from beginner to advanced. Many of the employees are knowledgeable. I can always call with a question no matter how silly it may seem to me. They always remind us not to be embarrassed to call because we can remain anonymous as they do not have "caller ID". LOL

Any machine that you buy that works for you is a good machine. Just enjoy it! Take good care of it, do your maintanance and it should last a lifetime! Remember any machine can be a lemon. My friend bought a Mercedes and it should have been yellow! One nev er can tell until you drive it.
