*&%#!!!&^*in' Dongle!

I have PE Design 4.0, and recently upgraded from Windows ME to XP. Now everytime I try to use PE Design I get an error message telling me the $%&*##* "security device" is not present. I almost didn't buy PE Design because of this thing. Now I wish I hadn't! Can anyone suggest a solution? I bought my (used) Brother machine and (new) software from an internet site sometime back (I know, but it was the only way I could afford it.) Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Fred

It is the XP I think.........it is fussy about what it will run and you have to do something to make it accept the dongle..........try changing the printer port........Worked for me..........Also, there will be others here with a load of XP experience for you!!

I don't know if this will help or not but give it a try. The one little quirk about XP is that it wants to be there first! I upgraded from 98SE to XP and most of my NON Microsoft programs either came up with errors or it said they weren't there, digital camera reader cord thingy and white pad drawing gizmo, etc. That included my Husqvarna Customizing Program and "non recognized dongle". My son works for Microsoft and I called him to ask what the deal was. He doesn't work in customer support so I had to go through his spiel about the department he does work in, how he could transfer me to the appropriate department, card number and expiration date, etc. I think he gathered that by the tone of my voice I was "not in the mood" for his humor. It's funny now, it sure wasn't then! He told me about XP's gotta be first quirk and to completely uninstall all the non M.S. programs and XP, reinstall XP and THEN reinstall each program. Worked like a charm, although the time I spent, saving to disc, uninstalling and reinstalling was a PITA all worked just fine after I was through.

You have to download an upgrade from the Brother site. Scroll down until you see it.
