By cassette, do you mean floppy disk? I've never heard of a cassete with designs before?

No, not a floppy. Cassette is what Viking calls them in the manual. The Viking 1+ (not the Designer 1) does not have a floppy. The Viking

1+ uses a card for the embroidery (plugs in to the right, below the main display) and a cassette which is placed on the front panel to the right. The cassette allows you to chose stitches or embroidery patterns. It is actually a set of interchangeable buttons for the machine. The tabs on the left side of the cassette appear to be what tells the machine what cassette is in the button area.

From other answers I have received, I can use any embroidery cassette and select the embroideries by number.

"Cassette" is an old name associated with any cartridge, tape, disc or whatever in a case as apposssed to loose tape or other media. Thus the name case ette
