Glass etching questions and looking for glass

Hello folks. Just got a new hobby, etching glass and am looking for some glass. I also have some questsions.

Can tempered glass be etched? If so, does it lose it's strength?

Can plexi or lucite be chemically etched? I have some of the etching cream and it doesn't seem to work on lucite. Contacted the manufacturer and they said it can't be done. It this true, or can a competitor's product etch Lucite?

I want to etch some small circles about 1.25 to 2 inch diameter. It has to be able to take some bouncing around. This is why I'm asking about plexi, lucite and tempered glass. Is there anything else out there that will look like etched glass but be strong like lucite?

Glass looks like glass. Lucite looks like plastic. It is plastic. Don't know what you mean by "bouncing around" but any "bouncing around" that would damage 2" diameter glass circles would certainly expose Lucite for what it is. Plastic.

If you go too far with etching, it will disintegrate into small granular pieces.

Tempered safety glass usually has a small logo on it which may be etched or painted on. Best to etch before you temper.
