Translation We are manufacturers of glass marbles in India. We would like to get know how in order to make a furnace for producing glass marbles non-stop (continuous melt) using petroleum coke or furnace oil. Cost of fuel should be very low and the furnace need be no bigger than 7 tonnes (of 1000 kilograms or 2200 pounds) Reply There are glassblowing factories in India shown videos that circulate in this country where coal and coke are used for fuel and people blow glass barefoot. The evidence available in this century in the U.S. or Australia or Europe is not going to be very helpful for use with dirty fuels. When England banned wood burning for glassmaking and coal was adopted there, it was found necessary to use closed pots to keep from contaminating the glass. Hooded pots are available in Europe which stand inside a furnace chamber that is heated around the pots, the opening of the pot facing an opening in the side. Unfortunately, continuous melt of glass where batch or cullet or both are piled on top of glass at the back of a tank and the molten glass passes under a barrier that keeps the unmelted materials out of the clean melt is going to be very tricky with indirect heating.
