washing glass after firing

Hi All,

I wash our glass in a mixture of CLR and water after it comes from the kiln to remove any scale or whatever. I sure makes it shine.

I was wondering if any other chemical does the same job. CLR or Lime away is expensive and there must be a chemical bath that would do the same job.

I do kiln formed glass. If there is any kiln wash on the back, I just soak the pieces in white vinegar. That usually removes all traces of the kw, or if some is stuck on, I file it gently with one of the metal files sold for that purpose. Sometimes you have to soak it overnight, but if you have been diligent in cleaning the kiln wash off your shelf and reapplying it, you shouldn't have that problem. Patti

a light touch with a sandblaster makes it all go away.
