Auction items

Some time ago, there was a lengthy discussion about how to price a stitched donation for a charity auction. Does anyone remember what the outcome was such as price of the item, willingness of people to buy it?

Reason I'm asking is that my EGA chapter is partnering with the local public radio station in an upcoming fundraiser so I'm curious about others' experiences.

It depends on what the question is in this case. If someone is buying the item, it is very difficult to price. I dont know about the law in the USA, but here in Canada, charitable organizations can give income tax receipts for charitable donations. If your piece qualifies under this sort of law, then I would recon one could value the piece as materials plus $20 per hour. However, the value would need to be small compared with the amount of money raised for the charity. HTH.

I'm not concerned about getting a tax break but wouldn't turn it down ;-) I can't be sure but think when there's an exhibit of needlework here, the value is determined using minimum wage as the hourly rate plus materials and finishing cost.

The demographics for public radio supporters are skewed towards those who have more than a little disposal income. It will be interesting to see what pieces are taken and how much they bring.
