New freebies and website re-work

After procrastinating forever about updating my poor, neglected website, I finally got around to doing a bunch of re-programming over the weekend when my 'net access was down and it was too hot to do anything outside. ;)

Mostly I've improved navigation around the site. I hope to work on getting some better photos of the designs for the next round of changes.

I've added two new-ish freebie bookmarks to the site that I originally did for Mary Monica to hand out at her book signings. I'll try to change the freebies more often than every five years from now on. lol

I've got a backlog of never-published small designs that I can cycle onto the site, but I need to do the charts and instructions in a web-friendly format first. And I'll also try to put up some of my small designs that were in magazines for folks who missed 'em the first go-round.

If you see anything wonky or something that doesn't seem to display properly, please let me know.

Nyssa, you have 137 errors and 7 warnings on your front page. To see what these are, go to:

and input your URL.I'm currently getting my bachelor's in web design/development. Standards are changing and if you don't keep up, browsers won't be able to view your pages, plus your rankings will be lower in search engines. Just trying to help. The results will tell you how to fix the errors.

Dianne,

The umpteen warnings and errors were generated assuming an XHTML document. When I switched to HTML5, there were a LOT fewer warnings and errors...4 errors, 5 warnings, mostly based on an incorrect DOCTYPE declaration.

I'll chase these down and fix 'em. Thanks for the pointer to the validation site. (I know my site works with several of the older browsers and a few funky ones.)

I've got a nice, big stack of O'Reilly reference books to keep me fairly honest with my HTML/CSS programming, but a few things always manage to slip through the cracks. Debugging is never fun regardless of the programming language being used.

I saw everything beautifully. I didn't take the time to browse the entire site because I don't like to tie up the phone line during "working" hours - in case someone wants to call about an interview - but it worked fine with my dial-up internet connection. :-) Liz from Humbug

Thanks for the feedback, Liz. I'm on dialup too, so I feel your pain. :)

As long as browsers are built to be backwardly compatible, most people shouldn't have any problems with my site. I try to keep things fairly simple with dialup and older computers and browsers in mind.

If anyone sees any glaring errors or has suggestions for for which of my older designs or freebies you'd like to see again, please let me know. This site is a work in progress, which at least is an improvement over ignoring it for more than five years. lol

Funny - I was wondering about you just the other day. I think I have all the sachet bags charts waiting for a good excuse to stitch them.

I'll take that as a sign that everyone who wants 'em have the whole Goodie Bag series, so I'll be posting the next bookmark freebie up on my website in a few days.

Thanks for the feedback, Cheryl.

Nyssa,

I think of you every two or three months when pull out the UFO's and all I have to finish is Jim's hang-a-long. All I have do are the Smyrna crosses with the copper metallic.

Please tell me why I procrastinate??? Maybe next year we will go to Dayton again.

I shall post on rctnp when i have the hang-along, finished and completed by my wonderful LNS owner/framer

I have never forgotten you.

Thank you, Gill. I think of you often too when I look at the Calling CQ model.

I'm *shocked* that the callsign update is still a UFO! I would have thought you'd have a cheerleader in the house to keep urging you to finish it for him. :)

Maybe we should consider putting a photo of the finished project up on my website on the design page to show folks our clever idea for when hams upgrade their callsigns!

I diddled some more with the website yesterday and got the updates uploaded which includes another bookmark freebie. It'll be a work in progress for the near future.

Plus I discovered another gotcha yesterday when I went to do a restore of my design files from a backup...most of them were missing!

I can only guess that my dying hard drive ate the rest. Unfortunately it looks as though just about all of my newer stuff were victims to the bit-eating monster. I have hardcopy charts of my models, but it will be a PITA to have to recreate each of the design charts stitch-by-stitch in the charting program. So that means a delay in getting them up on the site as new freebies or on-line projects.

Always sumthin!
