Yoohoo, Mommies!

Doesn't surprise me in the least - they don't need to advertise, if they did an employee would quickly fill this in. They are sort of like Beanie Babies which generated their speed by word of mouth. When that craze swept round it was only the small stores that carried them and the best place to see a lot in one go was at flea markets which took place in malls on Sunday. That is where I purchased the ones I needed, taking common Canadian Beanies to the UK and returning with common UK ones for my grandchildren here. I seem to recall bringing back a Princess Di Beanie Baby -

In the other group, I know it's intentional. One of the other members has declared a personal vendetta on me for daring to expose the dirty little secret of the medical profession: that not all doctors are gods who walk on water, some of them are incompetent.

Every time the moderator tracks it back and determines that what I was accused of saying never appears in my own writings, and boots the troublemaker out, she rejoins under a new name. I am not the only person she attacks, but I am her most frequent target.

The moderator sees the problem for what it is, and when it occurs, e-mails me "don't worry, you've done nothing wrong" because she can never find where I said the inflammatory thing I was accused of.

One of these days, it'll happen when I'm deathly ill for a couple days, and just like happened on RCTN a few years ago, it will become apparent to the whole group, not just the moderator, that the problem is not me perpetuating the battles (since I haven't posted anything at all for 2-3 days) but that the "mean girls" clique is attacking someone who isn't even there.

Nothing, obviously, since I have several times now said that you were correct about this. Did you miss it?

But this is still an unwarrented generalization. A)lots of people seek online companionship without being isolated. B)being snowed in isn't the only reason to be isolated. So if you are trying to say that people (seniors or otherwise) are more likely to go online in places where the winters are bad, I think you're absolutely incorrect.

That's not what people misunderstood.

Right, but you wont have time to do that work, since you'll be too busy contacting my dean to get me fired. Don't forget to do that.

I would think that if you felt that strongly about it, you would be more careful about not doing it yourself.

And if that "you" is directed at me, I'll note for the record that I haven't said you said anything you didn't.

[snipped for brevity]

This isn't that other group. This is RTCN. And who exactly would the "mean girls" be? Sheena, who has consistently defended you against Caryn and others? Lucille, who hasn't a mean bone in her body? Me? Ok, then.

They are not ubiquitous, because there have always been supply issues with them (and there was a lawsuit over sales practices) and because they have never been sold at the "big box" retailers. That doesn't mean they aren't popular and selling like hotcakes.

In fact, I don't think anybody said they were ubiquitous. Could that possibly be a misquote?

It was said that I must be totally out of the loop if I don't know about them because everyone knows what they are and they're sold all over. I can go back and get the exact quote if you like.

All I'm saying here is that since Mom and her friends spend so much time at the mall, I am far more surprised that they don't know about them than that I don't, since I go to the mall max 2-3 times a year, and generally dash in and out of the one store I'm there for, don't walk the entire mall like they do, looking at all the stores' displays.

Last time I was at the mall, I never got out of the northwest corner, which means I was nowhere near the toy store to know what they're pushing this year.

If someone wants to read a slam at themselves into the observation that Mom spends more time at the mall and should be better informed about what's "in" than I am, be my guest. It only proves that people are reading things that aren't there into simple declarative sentences.
