Kiln Cart?

Hi All;

Has anyone here ever built a cart to move a kiln around? Space is getting to be at a premium in the shop, and I'd like to be able to move the smaller kiln into an out of the way spot when not in use. I don't want to wheel it across the back yard or anything like that, just want to be able to move it 10 ft or so across the cement shop floor.

is this a typical round electric kiln? i never made one but don't see it as a problem.

the stand on my cress FX28 is the UL Approved height & distance from any wall features. as long as you keep that distance in mind, i don't see a fire hazzard.

i'd use a strong metal surface of course, and also use those locking wheels. the heavy duty 500 pounders... i'd also go further & make wheel chocks to block the wheels just in case i forgot to fully lock the wheels.

this is earthquake country my way (southern california) so for that reason i'd also make sure there was a teather to secure the cart in it's resting spot.

see ya

Yep. It's just a smaller (5 Cu ft?) older kiln.

It'll be wheeled to a suitable spot for firing, just want to store it out of the way when it's not being used.

I'm welding up a frame now, and it'll have locking casters.

We're well out of earthquake country here. (Ontario Canada)

Thanks for the reply Steve.
