Here is a picture of my Janome 1600p which I have inset into it's table to provide a larger surface to quilt on. The machine usually is used as a table top machine and there is an add on work table, that I have, but this is triple the working surface, of that, and much more stable. Being as there is no free arm on this machine, it seemed to be a no brainer and I wonder why they don't offer this machine in this type of configuration right from the start. If you will notice, just to the left of the stitch plate, there is a cut out of wood which allows access into the inner workings of the bobbin area to change bobbins. Also the knee lifter is in place and passes through the table top skirt to allow that function to be used if you desire. Altogether a much needed improvement to an otherwise wonderful machine, making it as near to perfect, for me, as I can imagine. Maybe you can interest your woodworking partner/friends/lovers/husbands/whatever, to do the same thing in your workspace. Any flat table top could be converted by the addition of a simple box which is screwed to the underside of the top, the appropriate cut out made, and the finished work supports the machine. Go ahead and start pestering them to make you one, you won't be sorry.
