Looking for Fabric

Hi Everyone! I have a REALLY big favor to ask; I've posted a picture to Webshots of a Sunbonnet Sue quilt block that I need to repair. The quilt was made in the

1920's or 1930's by my GGM; it's a Sunbonnet Sue pattern that I've not seen anywhere else. So the fabric I need is vintage 1920's or 1930's and I only need a small piece (about 8" x 10" or larger). I've been looking on the web and Ebay for months and haven't found it. I've bought a few pieces that I think I can use to substitute, but thought maybe someone in the group might have something better. I'm willing to pay you for it of course. Thanks so much for your help, Michelle

Michelle, I'm more likely to audition for the Music City Rockettes than I am to repair a much-loved antique quilt. That said, if finding an exact match proves impossible, I'm betting you can as gently as a whisper, ease that appliqué away and replace it with one just barely bigger to hide any stitching lines. I really believe you can. I've never seen a 'Sue' done in 20's and that quilt block is delightful. Wishing you great success; you can do it. Polly

I promise to send you the 1st copy, Jeanne. When and if, of course, they ever want any short old biddies. It could happen. Polly

Funny, I've been 29 for almost a decade now. I still think this will keep gravity from finding me. I fear the day that I will know how cold the floor is before I get out of bed.

Oh yes I am . . . and enjoying every minute of it. But let's get back to the 20's Sunbonnet Sue. Do you see the similarity of the 20's fabric and what is 'hot' for clothing fabric lately? I believe Michelle can easily find a close match for her block. Polly

"Taria" 50 is the new 40 or something like that. Old biddy is the last

Thanks to all for the encouragement! And Polly, if you want another short old biddy for your video, I'll volunteer! I'm gonna keep looking for the fabric for awhile; I just know that as soon as I repair it with a substitute the original fabric will pop up on Ebay. Michelle

Wish I could help! Good luck. It's such a cute design, combining a bit of applque with some nice embroidery. Roberta in D

Hi Michelle, is it possible for you to scan the fabric that needs repair - work on your scan with coloured crayons to match the colours and design (sort of) - then copy again to printer fabric? It could work to solve your problem...jennellh

Jennellh, I hadn't thought of that, might work. I use Photoshop to restore old or damaged photos and could use it to reproduce the design in the fabric. I'd rather find the vintage fabric or a good substitute, but I think I'll play with your idea. Thanks, Michelle

Howdy!

There are repros available; you could ask for a fat quarter of this, similar or close, Aunt Grace Ties One On:

another shop w/ the fabric:

If you go w/ the fat quarters or eights at Stitch-n-Frame and don't want all of them, I'd be happy to trade.

Good luck!

Sis just celebrated her 50th HB (in May)..and was bemoaning the fact that 'no-one' remembered...so I'm sending her a HB card---one a week for 50 weeks....One said If life begins at 40---you are only 10 years old. So Miz Polly--that makes you 11 and 11 ain't no old biddy in my book.

Butterfly (One was shaped like a pickle. Inside it said: Bet you never thought you'd get a pickle for your HB. When she hits 51---I'm sending her a pickle ornament--Oldest Sis came up with that idea)
