Polly, your heirs have memories attached to things you wouldn't expect. My mom has asked me what would I want to keep if she dies and was surprised at my choices. I have the silver one. I love it. I did get fitted at a quilt show, so I can't help you with the sizing process. There is something about the silver that becomes even more comfortable when wearing for a while. The metal heats up and makes it even better. I hesitate to repeat what was told to me because I might get it wrong. OR I got suckered into the silver one :-) ....either way, I do love it.
Kathyl, my TJ Lane thimble is also silver, and I agree with you. The silver seems to expand a bit when my fingers are hot and contract a bit when my fingers are cold. It's amazingly comfortable! :)
