I heard from Kate T of Picayune MS (sort of just north of New Orleans). She is alive and well - would love to know about her town. I knew very little but was overjoyed to hear from her. She may have posted her adventure here. I don't dare read much - the dialup connections come and go. Kate is a D@mn Yankee. (I was at least 7 years old before I found out that they all weren't called that.) Know what she did? When the going got rough (and Kate can go on for hours about how she loves living in Mississippi) - our Yankee cut and run to Ohio. Well. that just goes to show you. So very happy to know she's ok. I don't know if we've heard from Connie yet. We are running the Esther Shelter for displaced Yorkies, relocated hummingbirds, newlyweds and center for placing unknown-owner QIS. And soup kitchen - except tonight it's a spaghetti kitchen. We have also been known to kidnap licensed electricians. The dear out-of-state and also Canadian (really!) po co guys can restore power but can't touch "on house" meters without a tag saying a licensed electrician has checked it. No mail, no newspaper, no report from the coroner - don't know who's dead. Now and then I pick up the phone and say "Hello". Sometimes there's somebody there. It doesn't ring. We have a Vietnamese community who says this is worse than Vietnam. But we get better just by the minute and I have no idea how to tell you what wonderful big hearts are doing everything they can. It's almost curfew time and the hungry will be coming in soon. Thank you all for everything. I am a tough old bird but the goodness of others helps me keep my contact lenses well washed. Polly
