OT: quick check-in

Tomorrow is Tom's appointment with the specialist. I'm hoping that we can get either some idea of what has been going on with him, or at least get whatever tests are deemed as important diagnostics ordered and scheduled. So far, he has been doing well after going back to school full-time (knock wood), so I'm hoping that it will be something trivial that maybe just a dietary change will fix.

However, I've prepared myself for the worst just in case. That's just the way I am...lol.

Bek has been accepted into the school-based preschool program for next year (yay!), and I have learned that she will be there M-F and the same hours that Tom goes to school!!!! That means that BOTH children will be at school all day and will ride the bus together!!! Not sure what I'm going to do with myself, other than catch up on quilting and sewing, but I may end up getting a part-time job during the hours that they are in school, just to have people to talk to...argh!

Ken is breezing through his last few tests in Trig in prep. for his final (he had reached the end of his allowable 2 extensions, but they said if I sent an email explaining why he wasn't able to finish, he might be able to get a 3rd extension....that 3rd extension ends on the

21st, and he has 2 more tests and his final to get done).

Other than that, life is fairly smooth right now...thought you'd like an update, more to come when we have an idea of what is going on with Tom.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I wouldn't rush into getting a part-time job. Enjoy your time alone. This would be a good time to pamper yourself occasionally.

Larisa, Glad to hear your kiddies are better!!! yay!! and that the doctors say it was a fluke.

if it were me-i would stay home for at least a month. catch up on your rest and little chores and such. then maybe, just maybe, think about a PT job 2 or 3 afternoons a week. if i could afford it, i would do it now...but i like living indoors and eating regularly....the luxuries, ya know?? LOL

Larisa, prayers and good wishes are with you. Please let us know what Tom's dr. says. I know it's nerve wracking and makes the heart hurt like crazy. I just will keep all kinds of positive thoughts strong that everything will be fine.

And congratulations on getting both kiddies off to school! You are entering a brand new era of life and I predict you'll like it.

Hugs, Sunny

Thanks for all the prayers, good thoughts, and crossed fingers!!

The doc was really nice and put both the children and me at ease. After going over the recent rash of symptoms and such, he has ordered more comprehensive blood tests, including re-doing the food allergy testing. This doc is both an allergy/asthma guy and an immunologist, which is why we were referred to him.

He thinks that Tom testing positive to eggs might actually have been a fluke since he had been eating eggs for a while before the reaction. So, we will go on Saturday to get the blood drawn, and then we wait until Wednesday or thereabouts to call the office for the results. If the blood tests for the food allergies comes back negative, we get to make an apopintment for Tom to go back to the doc and eat eggs at the office, that way they can see what happens and he is right there ready for an epi shot if he needs it!

The doc is also requesting tests for different antibodies and running another full immunoglobulin test. He is thinking that Tom may have a reaction to certain bacteria, which can be treated by a shot of Prevnar, which is supposedly the adult version of the pneumococcal (sp?) vaccine that both children have received.

There are a bunch of other tests that he is running, but I can't remember all of them right now, other than the one for arthritis. Pretty extensive work-up though, so while I'll be anxious for the results, I'm glad he is being thorough.

Ken ordered the children to give me a break tonight, which was nice - this was said after he went to grab his milk and noticed it was almost empty - I went to the store last night and forgot to get his milk, but I got the kids' milk.

So, that's where we are right now. Because of the pleasant way the visit went, Tom will be able to go on his field trip on Friday, so I have to actually walk him to class tomorrow so that I can tell his teacher and drop off some things (I also need to chek the lost and found for his lunch box!).

Will update when I actually have more information!!

Thanks again,

Larisa
