OT: WOOHOO ... back in the 21st Century!

We lost power 6 AM Firday morning.... and have been living the life of "Little House on the Prairie" as my son said! Two and a half days -- doesn't seem like a long time does it... guess it depends on your perspective!

Not only no lights, no telephone (and can't charge cell phones), television, playstation (a life necessity if you ask my DS!), no Internet or Computer -- which I missed at first but then realized how much reading I got done!! -- but no refrigeration and because we live on a well.... NO WATER!!! Not cooking isn't that terrible of an inconvenience... you don't have to ask me twice if I want to eat out. But no washing hands... no flushing the toilet, no showers or hair washing.... I guess I was grateful to be in the DARK!!! NOTE: a 21 year old young man DOES need a daily shower even if he isn't overly active each day!!!

DH and DS wandered about the edge of the yard (we live next to a woods) periodically... but I couldn't bring myself to do that... but at least it helped on the indoor fragrance to only have 1 of us using the indoor facilities. We timed our meals around our other needs.

I bought a couple of cases of bottled water and a few bags of ice each day so in this 80 degree highly humid heat we got along okay... and even our lab, Sam, managed just fine.

But when the lights came back on I must admit I was happy. Within 20 minutes I had the dishwasher, washing machine and vaccuum going. And thank you to whomever invented Air Conditioning! Guess I wouldn't have made a good "colonial" wife!

A fun note: When the power went out Friday morning, DH was in the shower.... all lathered and shampoo'd up. Of course the bathroom lights went out but when the shower went dry he was at a loss! Standing in the shower, hair and body full of suds.... what could he do? Grab a pair of boxers -- run downstairs and out onto the deck off the kitchen... where he stood in the rain long enough to get his hair fully rinsed and his body de-suds'd! I should have grabbed a camera!!! Pelted by hail -- he stood there rinsing the shampoo out of his hair! It was a sight!

Now to catch up on what you all have been up to the last few days!

Glad you got your power back on! Good thing this didn't happen in the dead of winter (re: hubby in the shower! - don't think wallowing in the snow would've done a good rinse job!)

We learned back in the good 'ole Navy days - Typhoon in Okinawa, Japan; power-outs in Puerto Rico; ice storm here in ME - when we'd lose power for what seemed like ages - Always keep the following on hand: Plenty of extra batteries...all sizes Battery operated radio - I recently replaced ours with a hand-crank-powered one (also charges cell phones) from L.L.Bean Flashlights - even a lge. camping type lamp.; candles (and matches) Canned foods ...a barbecue grill is handy!! paper plates, cups, paper towels New Puzzles/games/box of crayons/coloring books are handy for the kidlets.(pick up at back-to-school sales/Christmas sales) Baby wipes (not just for babies ) Extra containers (2 to 5 gal.) of water. . . - can always heat water on the grill for coffee & plenty of Chocolate!!!!!
