Side Winder....Serious Xmas gift for fly tyers

I was sorting thru my fly tying stuff this afternoon (I'm getting rid of it since my poor old arthritic hands don't cooperate anymore.) and the light bulb flashed on. If any of you have a fly tyer on your gift list that Side Winder just may be the ticket.

The tying tool called a 'bobbin' is a gizmo that holds a spool of thread used for tying. See link:

The thread spool is held between the little "ears".Many tyers (like me) like transferring their thread to metal SM bobbins because they feed smoother than a spool and it's more comfortable to hold. If you want to wow a fly tyer, whose motto is usually "one can never have too much stuff or gadgets", I'd say give them a Side Winder......I'm really serious about this. I always wound my spools off using my sewing machine and several of my fishing buddies who also tied used to bring their spools and metal SM bobbins to me so I could wind these on my machine for them. Nice little gift.....One Side Winder and a pack of metal SM bobbins for the Fly Tyer on your list. ;) Val Teach a person to fish and they'll never go hungry. Teach a person to FLY fish and tie flys and they'll never have enough stuff.

Sounds great, Val, but there are no fly tyers around here. If you think of a practical application of the Side Winder for moonshiners, please do let me know. Polly

But I believe there are-----isn't it about time for Frank to pop up with questions of what to get Brenda? I think he goes by "flytier", or something like that. Gen

Howdy!

Wait 'til you see what she has to say about religion and Allah.

Some sidewinder's loose among us and playing all kinds of non-quilting games. Meanwhile our own dear Polly is probably making Barbie's trousseau by the dozens. What does a southern &/or Mississippi trousseau include?

Don't need one and I just love it for winding my thread. Sure does do it fast and saves my motor for other things, like makeing blocks and quilts. I also don't have to top and rethread my machine. I know some of you don't have to worry about the rethreading, but some of us do.

Barbie's finally done. Had to go shopping for another Barbie. I have great sympathy for folks hunting for good toys this year. The Barbie we bought to send to the shelter looked okay at first glance. When I unboxed her - good grief at the plastic tacks and tags and rubber bands that methinks are dangerous - I discovered that she was flimsy/crappy and had to go hunt one that would survive the rather strong-handling that she can expect from a little one. This Barbie has a lovely veil, bouquet, gown, seriously ruffled can-can petticoat, pantaloons and underpants. Since little girls prefer their dolls stripped rather naked, all of the clothing had to be sturdy and easy for little hands to put on and off. I ask myself why I do this and remember the joy our little girls had with their bride dolls. I'll probably keep doing it. Maybe I'll start earlier. Polly (SpellCheck doesn't know what a can-can is but I suspect some of you do.)

"Sandy Ellison" Howdy!
