what do you call/where do you buy

those little dots or strips that go on the bottom of your rulers so when you are rotary cutting and you are at the end of a very long strip .... the blasted thing doesn't slide a 1/4 inch off where you wanted it to go... and i do mean it always slips to the skinnier side not to the fat where i can fix it....

or should i just go get some double sided sticky tape and sand?

The last package of the dot thingies I bought are called Fabric Grips, and they are made by Dritz. I can't think what the others I have bought are called. These work just fine on my rulers.

I've mentioned this here before: Try little pieces of Nexcare Clear tape on the bottom of your rulers. It's a clear tape made by 3M for medical/first aid purposes. You find it near the band-aids and other first aid stuff in the store. The non-sticky side is textured so it stops the rulers from slipping. If you have access to a medical supply store, you may be able to find it there under the name "Transpore". It looks like the same tape to me.

I like Julia's tape idea. Along the lines of your tape and sand, you could use sandpaper. Get some adhesive back paper or use glue to put it on. That is what my mother uses. She just makes sure she places them on different lines so you don't cover up one line in several spots, making it hard to use. When they fall off, she just replaces them with another piece. Just another idea. It works for her, but personally, I would like to see through anything I put on my ruler. I don't currently use anything because I like to be able to slide my ruler into place when it is off a little rather than picking it up to readjust all the time.

Because I so often buy for our whole group I use Invisigrip clear plastic but instead of covering the whole ruler I cut it into strips. One roll goes an awful long way!!!!

Rolls of Magic Tape (not sure if it's still avail) also work really well.

I call them sticky cork pads. So does the guy at the office supply store. You can get sticky cork strips too.

I buy the little felt dots from quilting from the heartland.....but I notice she has a deal now iwht omnigrid and you can buy those templates other places now, so I don't know if the dots are more readily available too. They are MUCH thinner than the ordinary ones you would find around town......

Other options I've heard are invisigrip dots, painting dots with clear nail polish..... and I'm sure a few more will pop up..

Wal*mart has them.

That's the beauty of the tape. You can see through it. It is rough enough to grip a bit when you apply a little pressure to the ruler, but rough enough so that it doesn't slip as easily as a plain ruler.

Thanks Julia. I was cutting yesterday and had the same problem. I've got some of the tape, wonderful stuff isn't it? Now I just have to put some on my rulers. 3M always seems to make the best tape, no matter what kind you need.

kewl i just happen to have one of those way way too close to my house now. Never seen the dots before, but never really looked closely either... will have to go in and see the prices on those and the Nexcare tape and try one out. was hoping for something clear if possible.

thanks for all the suggestions! would fingernail polish really work??? wow... who woulda thunk it.

Kellie, when you have to replace or you are looking to buy other sized rulers, take a look at the new Omnigrip rulers. They really work for me. I have replaced all of my Omnigrid rulers.

Guess I should have read what I wrote before I sent it. I meant to say, it is rough enough to grip a bit when you apply a little pressure to the ruler, but not so rough that you can't move the ruler easily.

Of course, because the first "M" stands for Minnesota. Full name is/was Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. They have a large manufacturing plant in the town where I grew up; my sister-in-law worked there for a long time -- no shortage of tape of any kind at her house :)

LOL!! I know what you mean. My father has worked in one of their warehouses for about 20-25 years. I think that is one of the reasons my mother is using small bits of sandpaper on her rulers. He has enough for him, my DH, and for my 2DS's lifetimes without adding to it I think! Not to mention all the other stuff they make!!
