Technique -

Took a real maple leaf, stamped it in 3 colors (used my new stampin up stampin spots!) on vellum, and cut them out.

Layered mulberry and japanese paper with the vellum leaves, then put real fall leaves on top. The real leaves were soaked in glycerine for a few a days to preserve them, the flattened them in my big dictonary. Glued those on top, then inked the edges. I had a ball collecting leaves! I still have a bunch I need to find another project for!

Thanks Katrina for hosting. I can't wait to see everyone elses cards.

I'm so glad you posted those and shared the technique. Everyone is going to loooooove them. Makes me wish I had joined the swap. I wonder if you could do the same thing with the leaves and use it on a LO? I used some real leaves in a LO before, after I laminated them because I wasn't sure what they would do to the LO. I didn't know you could put them in glycerin. My Mom and I love looking at the fall colored leaves when they start turning. One day, she's going to have to come out here and see all the leaves.

Thanks Deb - I love fall, it's my favorite time of year, and I have ALWAYS loved collecting leaves. And, I've always wanted to do something with real leaves.

So - to preserve them in Glycerine, you mix one part glyceine with 2 parts warm water, mix well. Put in a storage container, and add leaves, weight down the leaves so they are completely covered. Let sit for several days. When you check them, some of them may be mottled, they will neeed to sit a bit longer, until they no longer look mottled. The bigger the leaf, the longer it needs to soak, of course.

Money saving tip I just learned - Don't buy craft glycerine - it's mighty pricey!!! Go to the local health food/vitaman store and buy Vegetable glycerine - I got a large bottle for $6.50.

I of course have no idea as to whether or not they are acid free - but that's why we use buffered papers, right??

You'll have to join the next swap!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the recipe Jessica. I'll have to share this with my Mom. Of course, she may make Dad take a trip up the mountain to go get her some leaves, but that's between the two of them. LOL (Knowing Dad, he would enjoy it, too.)
