First attemt at Paper Toll

In my album Other Crafts, I have added the pics of my first attempt at paper tolling... let me know what you all think. I made this as a present for my mum... she loved it, I actually got orders from friends and family to do this with their wedding photo's too... (I could make a lucrative little business outta this!! - I think NOT!)

I've never heard of paper tolling. That is really cool. I can see why you'd get many orders it is really nice.

Now this I gotta try with Sarah's Christmas Pictures. Especially the one with the snow flake.

I've seen this done before, but never knew what it was called. It looks great Cec. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, give it a go, it's so nice once it's done... I printed off 4 copies of the same photo, kept the base photo in-tact, but trimmed the others to make certain things stand out... like I said, I don't know if it's a TRUE paper toll, but I like it. Be sure to post yours after you do it, I'd love to see some more.

Umm... hard to say for sure, but probably took about an hour, maybe an hour and a half in total. Thanks for the comments :)

In a nutshell, Paper Tole is the process of taking identical prints, cutting out its component parts, shaping and sizing these 'components', then layering them on the 'base' print to give the finished piece its special 3-D effect. And, with a little experience, tolers can make projects as complex as they like. The results are truly spectacular...Take a look at the picture on the right:

Wow, thanks Lynne, I even had the spelling wrong... oops!! I confess I was self-taught.... my sister was given a nice (bought) one a couple of years ago, and I wanted to try, so voila.... that was my result.

I should read up on it and get the techniques right though, huh.

I've seen this done with prints, but not photo's. It looks wonderful. What a great idea for a shadowbox. Sandy

Thanks, I've also done one with a photo of a pyramid, this was for a friends birthday, unfortunately I didn't get any photo's of this before I wrapped it up and gave it away.... that one turned out REALLY nice too. I was able to really give the pyramid a 3d effect by layering it. I'm gonna keep trying it out, I love this technique.... only thing is, my local "cheap" store has stopped stocking the shadow boxes, so now I have to pay more for them :( I'm a GOLO queen, will always look for the cheaper way out of things... hehehe!
