I broke my papercutter AGAIN :(

It had to happen sooner or later... I love my Carl's paper trimmr but the plastic flippy bit is very brittle, and if you drop it onto a tile floor it inevitably smashes. I've gone through three of them in three years! The sad thing is that they don't make that model of trimmer any more, and that right now there is not one penny to replace it with anything more expensive, so I'm not even going to tell DH I broke it. I'll just have to do without... unless anyone knows of a compact easy-to-use RELIABLE papertrimmer that sells for less than ten dollars? (no, I didn't think so...)

I gave my niece a Zision Trimmer which was about $10. It cuts better than a Fiskars, the blades stay sharp longer and the blade doesn't pop out when you are trying to cut something. If you have an AC Moore store around with the coupon it would only be $6.

what kind of paper trimmer was it? I have a guillitene that I have collecting dust that I could donate to the cause.

Otherwise I saw a really nice one at Big Lots for 5 dollars and it was a HUGE fiskars one.

Ahhhhh Karen I'm so sorry to hear that! As a fellow tile floor owner I know your pain. Linoleum had some give, but the tile is unforgiving. If it falls onto the tile it will break. The only thing I can think of is to keep your eye out for a Michael's 40% off coupon or make sure you are signed up for the Joanne's website. I get really good coupons from their website on a pretty regular basis. Even if you don't live near a Joanne's you can get things from their website.

John said 'we'll just go buy you a new one'... I had to talk him out of it because we really don't have the money to spare! (he said it's essential, but the fact is that I haven't used it nearly enough lately to justify spending the money on a new one when it could be used for more urgent things...) Once again I'll have to hunt for a new reliable CHEAP trimmer because Carls discontinued that one last year. Shame - I really liked it apart from the whole fragility thing!

Is the Making Memories cutter any good? There is one at the LSS yard sale for $10 (I saw it yesterday when I was there) Sandy

i was just at wal-mart a few hours ago and they had the fiskars trimmer (orange and clear) for $16.97

Oh Karen, I'm so sorry this tragidy occurred, and it really is a tragidy. We paper crafters have a hard time functioning without a paper cutter! I hope you find a reliable one on sale and can get it, and soon.

DH went out and bought me the new Carls cutter this afternoon... he said it was cheap. I just hope it works half as well as the old one did! I'm a bit concerned that it says it will only cut 5 sheets of paper at a time... oh well, it will do for regular household stuff even if it isn't good enough for crafts. I do still have my big Fiskars trimmer - I'm just trying to make it last longer becuase they don't make that one any more either so once my mat and blades are trashed it won't be any good either, and I really like it!

I tried the Carls cutter and it's useless for crafts. :( Since the bar doesn't lift up you can't even put a folded card in it because it's too thick! I gave it to DH and he says I should just buy myself whatever I want to use, but I'll wait until I can find one cheap. Maybe Ebay...
