OT: Bad Search Engine PERFECT FOR IDENTITY THEIVES THOUGH.

HI.

My mom fowards the damnedest eMails that she believes to be true. Given how gullible she is I tend to check out websites she forwards without a care in the world.

Here's the link that she forwarded.

It gives out way too much information regarding me that I care to have public (try Catherine Higby as they haven't gotten to Catherine Interrante yet).

Maybe we should fill their inBox with "remove me" mail.

thought I'd share.

That is indeed very scary.... what if a person, say "me" didn't want my whereabouts to be known for safety reasons.... I mean it even gives a "map it" option, leading people straight to our doorsteps.

Fortunately for me, everything it had on me was more than 5 years old. However, I put my 12-year-olds name in there and it popped him up where we lived 2 years ago! How in the world did they get information on a child; my child no less! His schools don't even know where he lives and we don't order anything from anyone (for security reasons).

Ah, big brother, where art thou?

I don't think you can... they're accessing public records to compile their database. Their information on my husband looks like it's about five years out of date though.

Wow that is scary. I pulled mine up and it is pretty accurate (one of the listings) but others are out of date, back to my last ex and HER address from our divorce in 96, and even mama and papa listed who have been gone since 98.

I think somewhere somehow there out to be some limit put on what info can be gleaned for public, let alone personal use, but not with all the current administration i office who are SO FOR ALL this being available.

That's pretty funny. My brother is listed as his own relative. I have 2 people I've never heard of listed as my relative. It really didn't have any info that I wouldn't normally give out. And thank goodness my children weren't listed. I don't know who puts the info together, but it sure is hit and miss.

It says you can have your information removed from their site, but I can't figure out how.

I'll definately look more thouroughly to see about removing a listing for my child... and though it's out of date, it's really, really not okay to be posting information on where a child lives and how to get there.

It wont do any good to remove it from Zaba. Zaba is just a search engine. The information it gathers is available to anyone on the net. The information is publicly accessable information. If you stop it on Zaba, it will be available on all the other search engines. What REALLY ticked me off was when I brought my information up it made me 4 years older than I am. HOW DARE THEY SAY I AM 62. I AM A YOUNG 58.

This is no lie. Recently my DH and I received a phone call from a person that we did not want to have any contact with. We have an unlisted number and we usually only give out our cell numbers. This person called us out of the blue. They got the information from some internet site. They even said what difference does it make now I have directions to your house. DH was peeved to say the least. No privacy.

That's too funny, because it made SIL 5 years younger than what I've been told. She's an Asian gal and looks like a little girl any ways, so I called her to give her a hard time that she's getting younger and I'm getting older.... what gives?!

Too funny! Heck much of that info is available if you have an listed phone number. But stuff like this has been available on the web for a long long time.

Dave, I'm not sure what this has to do with American politics though. We are speaking internet here and no one really controls it. Certainly not the current president of the US any more than the Japanese, British, Canadian, Australian or any other head of state. M-C

I have to agree with some of the others, this info is just accumulated public info from various other sources. I personally love zabasearch because I do a lot of genealogy and also occasional adoption related searches and it provided great info for those types of legitimate searches. I never use the info to actually go to someone's house or anything but I have called a few people and sent letters and successfully found long-lost relatives. This was especially rewarding when helping my father locate some old co-workers and Army buddies before he passed away last year.

You should google yourself or your children and see what you find. Those other public sites are where zabasearch is pulling the info. Your children's school may have info posted or your local newspaper if your children have ever done anything newsworthy. In my opinion, Zabasearch is providing a service and there are many public records sites like that which I have used over the years.

There are laws for harassment and stalking etc. if you are having a problem with someone bothering you or your family. I hope that those of you who have contacted zabasearch get a satisfactory reply from them regarding your children's info.

Just my opinion, Alida

They don't charge though. It's free and it's as accurate (or inaccurate) as the other sources that are out there. It's not like they are sitting there with a file on you and personally cross-checking every address or date of birth that shows up for you. It's just a computer generated search of the numerous public databases.

They do have premium fee services which are more advanced and have detailed info but I've never used that.

I checked out the website, I wasn't listed and neither were my DH or DD. I checked my sister's name and she was listed along with my parents and my brother as her relatives. I guess I don't exist! I guess its a good thing that I'm not in there.

It really doesn't give out any more info than switchboard.com would on a telephone number search. Though, I did find out my younger BIL used his brother's (DH) name when he moved to Wisconsin as DH is listed as living at BIL's address. Wonder what he used it for - utilities? Sandy
