OT: Update on Lauren

Lauren had a recheck on her foot/ankle yesterday and was NOT released to dance. She has 2 more weeks off continuing with ice packs. There is still swelling and bruising and some discomfort. Since there are only about 4 more football games, who knows if she will be performing in any of them. There is also FBA (Florida Bandmasters Association) competition which she probably will not be able to perform in either since she hasn't been able to practice. Hopefully she will be back to normal for Wintergard and be able to participate in that. I pray all this doesn't affect her eligibility for squad next year.

She did tell the Dr that she had worn heals for about 8 hrs on Sat night (Homecoming Dance) and he said that it was probably really good for her because it changed the position of her foot and allowed some stress to be relieved from the tendons. Whew!

I'll keep you posted on what the next checkup brings........ Thanks for the continued prayers Susan

Susan

I'm sorry to hear Lauren isn't up and around yet. She must be going nuts... but I know it's for the best and she'll be grateful they made her wait later.

Renee...she's icing it conscientiously every night. They haven't told her to stay off it so she doesn't. S

Tara....I'm just wishing we had taken her to the Dr right away....she may not have been out for as long and even if she was...that healing period would be over by now! S

I am sorry to hear that she is unable to dance yet...she must be so bummed! We are going through our own band trauma here...on Tues. I dropped Jeremy off for band practice after a doctor appointment. I was not even home yet when I got a call from the school saying that Jeremy had hurt his hand in an accident and would probably need to go to the hospital...so I turn around and pick him up. He is holding a huge icepack and gauze and dripping blood all over the place. Seems his fingers got shut in the hinge side of the door to the drum room, and it shut all the way...Take him to urgent care, where they look at it and say that the tendon may be exposed and they couldn't stitch it there, he needs ER...so we drive him to ER. They say no, that is just fat showing through, no tendons thank goodness. They x-ray...his middle finger is broken below the first joint and he needed 11 stitches in that finger too...his index finger is pretty mangled, but needed no stitches...the other two fingers are just bruised. So, with Bands of America competition on the 25th, we are not sure if Jeremy can play his tympani...the orthopaedic guy said that as soon as he felt ready to try, to put those sticks in his hand and do it. So maybe there is hope...anyway, I feel your pain...I am sure that this won't affect her chances for winter guard or next year. Tell her we are thinking of her! Arleen

Oh my goodness Arleen! I didn't know that Band had turned into a contact sport. First the competion accident and now this. Thank goodness his hand isn't as bad as it looks. I sure hope he can start playing again really soon.

Hang in there Susan. I'm sure waiting for an injury to heal at a critical time like this is like being pregnant and waiting for the baby to come. Seems like FOREVER! I'm praying things heal quickly and correctly so she can resume her dancing.

Sorry she's not fully healed yet!! Don't second guess yourself though - there's no saying she would've been healed by now. Please let her know we're all pulling for her!

Arleen, I am glad it went to the group...so sorry to hear about that !! I just got chills thinking about it. I hope he heals quickly and Ishudder to think how much that hurt!! My girls were in the band and so was I,so I know how much it means to him to be there. I'll bet he will have those sticks in his hands sooner than you think. Sending out good thoughts and lots of healing viberations. Hugs,

Sabrina :-)

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies and Arleen, I'll say some extra prayers for Jeremy too.

The latest scoop on the Lauren saga is that it seems some of the girls on the team want her to sit out the rest of the football season so they won't have to re-learn spots again. So much for "team" support! I'm really hurt and aggrivated about it. I'm trying really hard to keep from having a bad attitude about it but so far...it's not working! How would they feel if it were them?! OK...enough pity party...... Hugs S
