Secret Santa 2007

Hi.

OK I know it is way too soon to be thinking of it but I am. I was wondering when we can begin sign ups as I'm finding a bunch of great deals on stuff that I'm snatching up to RAK or give to a potential SS Recipant.

Our budget is really tight and I want to budget it in. Can we refresh my memory as to what the budget is for the SS, etc. thanks.

Our last Elf was Sandy. Do you want to do it again this year Sandy? And if so can you contact me offline so that I can set up a sign up form for it on the website?

I believe we had a $20 budget, but I know that my SS went overboard, LOLand I probably did too!

Thanks, M-C

Yes, I am willing to do it again. Last year the SS was $25 value. We also had a handmade gift swap with the value set at $5-$10 for those who thought $25 was too high. Some participated in both. Sent you the notices from last year for both swaps, M-C.

I have a question/suggestion. I know there are several in here that are sensitive and conscientious about what they can do or afford.

It is one of my great pleasues :)) to be able to particpate in this great event every year as well as the nsssf swap. I am guilty and I have to say that 90% of the people that i have done either of these swaps with DO NOT abide by the "given" guidelines. We all are guilty!!

What I am saying is this, why does there need to be ANY limit put on these swaps? The large majority of us in here have been here for a spell and full well know that whatever is gleaned from whomever is very well appreciated, and trasured whether it is boughten, or hand made, whether it costs one dollar or 200. I have not in several years seen or intrepretted any thoughts of jealousy or crass from anyone giving or receiving.

I hope this makes sense and the reason I say this is the overseas or cross border members have that disadvantage due to costs of materials not to mention postage. I personally treasure not the gift but THE THOUGHT and the desire to be a part of this special swap not to mention group.

If I could not afford to give a set amount but knew that if I could just make or buy a card and send something small whether it was handmade or not it would be well received and I would be blessed by the appreciation gleaned from whoemever received it. After all not knowing makes the best surprise and BIG things can/do come in small pacges!!

Just my two cents and wondering if a "swap: with o limitations would be

Dearest Dave,

I'm with you on the "non-set" preset limit. I guess Those who can, do; those who can't, try.

I know I had you last year and Larry really wanted to help out but money was really tight but I knew my heart was in the right spot. So we did the best we could with love layered in the gift.

I've made a huge sign (ok it's a hot pink postit) near my craft table to remember more than just my SS but as many people as possible from this board. We just came back from BJ's and as usual hit up the gift tags for inspiration as I did last year. Hopefully I'll be able to "create" more stuff for more people.

So how about this as a compromise: One SS swap that incompases all of these choices and no one is the wiser:

  • SS gift
  • -10 handmade/store bought SS gifts
  • Skies the limit; handmade, storebought or both.

You tell the hostess (privately) how many participants you want to RAK (i.e., one, two, three, more) then you get their addresses and get to know them as well.

So if you can only afford one then that is fine. If you can afford more great. I'm just a budgeter and meant absolutely no offense to anyone asking about the budget. (it was just a leaping off point for me; larry has discovered that Century 21 downtown {it's a store not a realtor} has crafts and is enabling me and keeps saying "who are you the SS for do you know yet????.)

Hugs,

Kate

I agree I would be very happy this year if my mailbox was filled Christmas Cards. Just handmade christmas cards from my wonderful online friends with a sweet little message inside. Thats all I ask for and I'm being serious! I usually don't get that many christmas cards I get a lot of e-cards.
