Hey Dave!! Thanks for thinking of me! We just had bunches of wind and rain, lots of small debris in the yards, and one of our roads apparently got washed out, because I just found out today that it is closed! I will be glad when this hurricane season is over. I was sorry to hear about your travel problems in LA. Glad you made it home safe and sound! Arleen

Wow Mindi, you sure are busy! YOu have 35 in a Kind. classroom??? That is unheard of! Was there already a para-pro in the class to help, or are you it?? Here in GA. our "no child left behind" act passed by the governor mandates 20 children max. in a K. class, with a para-pro. That is great, but our schools are so overcrowded we may soon be forced into double sessions for the elementary, middle and high schools! The growth around here is just amazing! It is so nice that you are there for all the poor kids after school...I feel so bad for those that have to come home to an empty house, but so often there is not alternative...I think it is great that you are there for your kids and the others. You take care of yourself, and check in when you can!! Arleen

WOW Mindi, I thought you were ALWAYS the busy bee, but I guess WE really did not know!! That is a bunch of kids and like they say it really is a blessing to have someone like YOU around to give a helping hand!!

Just remember, YOU MUST check in at least ONCE a MONTH!! That way we will know you are still amongst us!!

You are always a busy one I know and that is why I thought of ya too! I posted this thread justa tad too soon, before I caught up on the weeks messages and saw you were HERE!! Glad to hear at least you are high and dry. Ivan sure has been a whopper and sad to say I think this is only the beginning of never ending prices on everything, especially building materials.

Well this school is brand new.. this is year #2... and last summer they doubled the size of the school.. this year its over flowing. and they are trying to get in more portables.. 10 total I THINK is what there should be soon... most K classes and the other 5th grade.. then what ever needs it.. My sons class is a special one in the fact that its the bilingual class.. 8 I believe that have never spoke english..most vietnamise(sp)... There is 1 main teacher.. her aid... and up until a few days ago.. a "helper" he was a french/spanish/english/and a few others speaking PE teacher.. They have now moved him to PE... and there is a SUB helping out until half of the class is moved to a portable where they will get new teachers.... 18ish should be staying in this class.. but all the K classes are 30+ so not only is it SUPER FULL.. so many dont really speak english.. and no.... no one there speaks their language... they are just learning first hand.. and doing PERFECT! little kids are amazing.. .they can learn anything.. As for all the kids.. they are here anyway! so I might as well be watching them.. we live in a neighborhood where all the kids are within 3 years of each other.. and they are from K to 3rd grade. (still young enough to play with each other)... some of the parents give me some cash when they can.. becuz well.. anyone that has kids.. knows.. kids can eat a house after school.. soooooooooooo.. lucky me.. I get to feed them!! not becuz I have to.. but how can I feed my 2.. and the neighbor twins(which I have darn near

24 hours a day) without feeding them all.. I feel like a one man buffett sometimes..lol Miss you all Mindi

WOW... when i went to school maybe 20-25 per class and graduation was 350+ for my class alnoe. My husband graduated in a class of 8 in a small town in rural texas. My son goes to a rural school in shamrock. the pre-k - 12th are all in the same campus and the total this year last count was total less then 400 for the whole school!.... the cut a few teachers and classes again this year. Just means better attention to each stdent. that is the only thing I like about the situation!..

Our school started year round Kdg. this year...which is great!-but, they had to hire 3 new teachers to accommodate the students....and our super intentandt would not give money for more para-pro's. So now instead of having one in each K class full time they all get to share...they have one every other day. Our max is 25 a K. class for 6 weeks and then they have to hire another teacher. Kdg is the only grade who still has para-pros because our super intendant does not believe they do any good in the class room. I am a para pro at my daughter's school...I was the 2nd assistant for 3 years and then all classroom aids were cut out so they have moved me into our literacy lab. It is nice and all but it is not the same as being in the classroom. Sigh

Thanks for the kind words Maureen! Havent heard from you in ages.. and I wish I could just do cookies and milk! I dont allow Sugar in my house.. (hubby has a more atkins style lifestyle in orer to keep his heart disease in order.. and oldest doesnt do well with it) our family is fine with it.. but other kids arent adjusted well to the sugar free things yet.. and.. I cant afford sugar free cookies for the town..lol ... so.............. we do alot of apples, grapes, popcorns, and finger snacks.. thank heavens for SAMS! lol

Wow, my graduating class was over 1.5 times the size of your son's school! (675 in my graduating class) We had 4300 in the school (6 grades); never felt too big, but I was raised in the suburbs of the big city since I was four. Might have felt overwhelmed if I'd grown up elsewhere then moved there.
