Where are you guys talking?

So, it's down to a handful of the faithful and a lot of OT stuff - I can't believe everyone is gone. Where are you guys hanging out talking about needlework?

I'm here, just quiet. Life seems to have overwhelmed me and I'm plain old tired. I'm trying to stitch a biscornu on 14 count Aida and I can sort of see it.

Bifocals are due next week with a little luck

I tend to migrate among various boards for needlework subjects. A list of contenders include: 1-2-3 Stitch message board, Wagon BB and Rotation Stitchers BB on Yuku, others boards on EzBoard that have not crossed over yet. I also look at designer-specific boards, including Chatelaine, TW, Mirabilia, etc.

Same here. I had a couple days with no work coming in, so I decided to stitch frantically on a Christmas gift. As of last night, it is more than 3/4 done. :)

And as of last night, I got something like 700 pages of work in within a few hours, so there will not be much stitching the rest of this week.

I've been on some other boards over on Yahoo. I read the posts here though, now and then.

I'm mostly just a lurker, especially as my stitching time is VERY limited. I just started my second year of a PhD program in chemistry, so most of my time is spent thinking about (or reading about) molecules, leaving very little time for everything else in life.

How's it going with the rest of the group?

I've been sew busy stitching that other than solitaire and checking email, my time online has shrunken a lot.

My current obsession is beaded embroidery. I've spent hours and hours trying to 'perfect' some techniques with varying degrees of success. If the beads are anchored on the ground, I'm okay but if they're free standing, I need two more hands. Case in point, covering beads with seed beeds looked like a no brainer -- string enough beads for a line to cover the outside and then wrap and repeat and repeat until the bead is covered. When I tried that, the beads kept slipping to the inside, leaving gaps on the top.

I've been busy with life things, and not doing much needlework. I have been knitting though. I finished a sweater in 2 weeks (ta da!) and just need to sew the buttons on. And now I want to do a couple of slipper pairs for the winter.

I haven't tried this method. I've done it using a variation of peyote stitch, starting with a peyote line around the middle and then working upwards, decreasing as I go. It takes a lot of practise to do without leaving obvious gaps. Dora

I'm a bit late, but when I have the time, I post on my blog. Time is short these days, though, since I started a new job and am still trying to keep up with existing committments. And I've been doing more knitting than embroidery lately, because that's easier to do on the bus to work!

Several different yahoo groups. And many needlework blogs.

When you (I) haven't picked up the current project for almost 6 months and are feeling guilty, there's just not much to discuss. : ))

If you're having so much trouble, you should go back to the 'doctor.' I had a really bad time with my first pair -- it turned out that the prescription was correct but the bottom part of the lenses were not as big (or small) as they should've been.

I second this. As small as my frames are (and you know how small they are), I just walked out the door of the optometrist's with them on and went about my business. I can see that there would be an adjustment period, but not one this long.

IF - I could have 1-3 days were I could just stay put and wear the dang things with out needing to drive somewhere or deal with some crisis, I suspect the new "adjustment" would be fine. But that hasn¹t happened yet.

I have a tendency to get dizzy when my vision isn't what my brain thinks it should be...when I went from glass (wore glass from the time I was 5 until mid 20's) to polycarb lens, I was having an awful time adjusting to the change in my peripheral vision. Anything not exactly in front of me didn't look like my brain thought it should and I'd be turning my head or my eyes would be darting from side to side. ( almost like the start of a panic attack in fact) Took almost a month. Fortunately my doctor warned me that this might be an issue. C

The location of the magnify part is ok - it is just the switch time - I'm not transitioning between near and far well. C
