Would you pay $50 for a paper piecing?

Interesting list... all the rubber stamps I own came from bargain bins and the dollar store and similar sources - I don't own anything 'branded' at all. As for papers, I don't really see how they can stop you doing whatever you want with a sheet of paper once you've bought it! How on earth are they going to enforce it?

Exactly!!!!!! I think you can get too hung up on the legalities of something and never create anything yourself. IMO...if YOU create a card from a vision in your mind of how it should look....and you incorporate an image from a rubber stamp or purchased papers to do that...then I would say it is your design...not theirs. I certainly would not be printing credits to these companies all over my work.......are they for real!!!!!!

If you look at all the stamps in many big branded ranges they are lineart from many different sources. Can they legitimately claim they own copyright.....I would say that it is extremely questionable. Very few are original drawings turned into stamps most are from previously printed pictures, works of art, cartoons, cigarette cards, photographs, etc. Scanning a picture, removing or changing the colour, turning it into a line drawing doesn't mean that you can then claim it as your own.

Well when you think of it... what about copyright issues for layouts in scrapbooking magazines and all those cards in papercraft and card making mags? Do they sue these people?

On the other hand, I guess we should keep in mind that designers like singers make their money based on royalties paid on the sales of their products. So I would draw the line at scanning and printing the paper and the embelishments. However having paid for the paper and the embelishment I don't think they should get upset if I use them to create something else and sell it. They've already made their money!

Just my 2 cents worth!

The way I look at it M-C is that the negative publicity from the big fish going after the small fish would hurt them big time. Like you my feeling is that if I have paid for it, it's my business how I use it!!!
