Finishing off Leather sewing (with a machine)

May 14, 2006 1 Replies

Hello

I do a fair amount of leatherwork as a hobby. I recently procured a heavy duty machine that allows me to sew leather about 5/16" of inch thick total. My question is, how do you finish? I have been led to believe that sewing bacwards is a bad idea, since leather needles actually cut holes. I have been finishing by manually tying a surgeons knot with the two thread ends by pulling through to the unfinished side.

For those of you who sew leather with a machine, how do you finish?

Thanks

Scott

A dab of clear nail polish works on leather that I can sew on the machine. I also tie off the ends first.
