marfy patterns - vogue

Sorry if this is old news, but I just went on the vogue patterns web site and found listing I had not seen before for "Marfy Patterns". They are from Italy, include no seam or hem allowances, instructions or illustrations of the garment. They are marketed directly at advanced/expert sew-ers. Prices are reasonable except for bridals which are near $100 for a pattern!

Uh huh, right, pull the other one, it has bells on.

I don't believe for one minute that a twelve-year-old is "drooling" over those quite sophisticated patterns.

With all respect to the subject and not meaning to take it lightly, as I have known some wonderful people with this problem, it could be possible that this person suffers from MPD (multiple personality disorder) and the alters have different ages. :)

At 12-14 I drooled over Worth and Fortuny, Dior, and Jean Muir... And copied some of them for my dolls! This one in particular:

I drooled, but didn't do much more than that.

I think they're interesting, but some of the descriptions don't match the sketches, to my eye at least. One of the wedding gowns describes gathers where there are no gathers to be seen in the sketch -- that would worry me if I were thinking of ordering one. Which I'm not -- I think they're quite beyond my modest means and I think the patterns are *hugely* expensive.

Nice sketches to look at for free, though. :)

----- Well, why, yes, we were the two most georgeous people in the room, Pat. I remember it well. I myself looked so exquisite, I couldn't pass a mirror without doing a full, model-type turn, in slow motion, so that I could fully admire the view. The only thing that slowed me down that evening was the large Webster under my right arm, and the Thesarus under my left armpit. I did color-match their bindings to the exquisite evening gown which I designed and created myself, though, so they were unobtrusive, I'm SURE. And you, my dear, were equally stunning--less the five pounds that box of chocolate which you were wearing on your hips, of course, but I'm sure no one else noticed. A Ploy? Oh, no--no, the chocolates were meant as a true tribute to your willowy lithsomeness, not an effort to upstage you! Given all this, I do wish the x hadn't stolen the timeless photograph of me garbed in a plaid flannel gown, replete with gunbelt and magnum pistol strapped to my waist. I was SO looking forward to sharing that memory with my sewing friends! Cea

Yeah. They look very interesting!! There are, in particular, a couple of jackets that look very interesting. I am working with a gal this summer, teaching her to sew. She's off to the Fashion Institute the Fall. I'm thinking one of those jackets would make a great final project for us to work on. She's not yet an advanced sewer (she is coming along so quickly though....like a duck to water!) but I'd really like to get her "not skeert" of patterns with no frills.

Thanks for pointing them out!
