You might find some advice here - but this group has been quite idle < dead > for quite some time. I'm not a sewist - sorry - but if I were seeking such advice I'd ask the nice ladies at the senior's craft centre or quilters group .. or sewing machine shop. Flirt with them and tell a dirty joke and one will offer to sew it for you .. :-) John T.
I have a spool of bonded-nylon thread, and find it too stiff and wirey to sew with. I used it, for a time, to make drawstrings for a button-making class I used to teach, but after melting the drawstring while pressing out the gathers, I switched to crochet cotton.
If I were to do the job with the threads I have on hand, I'd choose the 100% polyester upholstery thread, "strong, durable, and rotproof".
With all poly threads, I prefer filaments twisted together to fibers that have been chopped into short pieces and spun.
I'm suspicious of threads meant for overlocking, but have zero experience and would not venture to advise.
If you use a fine thread double, keep track of the ends cut off the spool so that you can keep them pointing in the same direction. (Imagine nap on the thread, slanted, and match the nap.)

I'd use the thinnest needle that punched a hole that was big enough. The thread should slide through the hole easily, but a thicker needle is harder to push.
