The coat - at last!

Finally managed to upload pix of The Coat! Hit the URL below and look in the Posh Frock Gallery.

Alan took the photos last night in the new conservatory. :)

Also pix of me in the black velvet bodice I made for fun, under Hysterical Costuming.

Next project: finish the alterations Mum pinned into my silk skirt and get pix of that up!

Love the fabric - very classy. You might need something a little warmer than sandals to wear with it though! Don't think I'd have much use for something that warm in Sydney!

Great job on both!! As usual. You are positively skinny!

I wear those sandals in the snow, you know! ;) It was late at night, and I didn't quite feel up to putting socks and boots on.

Yes, it *is* very classy fabric - and the lining is heavy duty with a fluffy back! Very snuggly, but I agree about Sydney!

Thanks! I don't FEEL skinny - not with 40" hips and a 30" waist. But I do feel a lot smaller than I was, and that's taking some getting used to. Shedding 9" off yer bum is no small matter! ;)

Beautiful, Kate! And it looks so warm! You do such fantastic work.

Thanks, Irene. :) It *is* warm - that lining has a fluffy back!

I have unpicked the Petersham from the back of my skirt waistband, dug a hole in each thumb with the quick-unpick, and stopped for lunch while the bleeding stops! No point in getting blood on a mock polyester* dry-clean only skirt!

I just need to re-thread and adjust the serger, and get those seams done, then re-finish that waist, and I'm good for a few summer parties!

Then there are some white crepe back satin capes to make... Yup - the Queen of Poly Satin strides again! I'm getting damned good at that stuff! ;P

*100% silk crepe de chine bought by mistake! I thought it was polyester and washable. But it is gorgeous - black flowers on an ivory ground.

My GOD! Where is Kate disappearing to???!!??? I love the coat, but I had to go back and look at the first picture under the posh frocks then go back to the coat....woman, you are shrinking and it shows!!! I wish I had that much self control and determination.

You look mahvelous, dahling!! ANd the coat isn't bad either!!

Thank you, Larisa. :) I'm still having 'trouble' adjusting mentally to the smaller me! Some of my clothes (particularly T shirts!) are smaller than James's! And the coat is a Burda size 12 pattern! Did you look in the Black Velvet Bodice project? That corset-like bodice really doesn't pull me in much: done up like that, I measure 30" round the middle on top of the thing, which is exactly the same as I measure without it! Squashes me by a good 2" further up... ;)

When every bite of the 'wrong' food gives you the cramps, and every mug of coffee over the daily ration of 1-2 may turn you inside out, sticking to the diet is no hardship! Pain is a superb teacher - I'm all for aversion therapy! ;) I have about 10 lbs to go to hit my goal weight of 143lbs. That will be 70lbs gone! :D

Thanks! I'm feeling virtuous for having used up some stash, made it for considerably less than I could have bought one of similar quality (even 'paying' myself £10 per hour for the sewing!), and for getting on with a few UFOs as well!

Poking the holes in my thumbs with the quick-unpick was an added bonus I could have lived without...

Kate, to reference the right pattern number I wandered around in your site. And I have a prying question...do you not like to pose? Or are you affecting the runway somber expressions?

Your writing style is perky and fun, and sprinkled with hilarious asides that always have me grinning. But I didn't see any pics of you where your brilliant sense of humor and fun is peeking through.

Have Alan tell jokes next time he shoots you, eh?

I was cold and tired - at 2 am! And I'm smiling in the coat snuggling picture!

There's no pattern number for that bodice - I use Drea's Corset Pattern generator.

Arrows or silver bullets? ;P

Lovely lining (and the rest, too, but the lining really caught my eye).

It's great, isn't it! A sort of heavy poly mix: poly satin on the 'outside', and fluffy cotton like flanelette on the 'inside' where you can't see it. Makes it both warm and easy to get on and off! :)

I used to be a chocaholic, but I hardly eat any these days! If I'm cooking with it, I'll have a little nibble, and if I have posh chocolates I stick to one or two per day. Sounds awfully good, but the plain truth is too much sets of the knotty innards and is too painful to want!

You enjoy your little pack! The ones I send out with fat quarters to my quilting friends are 78% cocoa solids dark Belgian chocolate rather than Cadbury's, though I do send them to kids! :)
