Newbie needs help with White sewing machine

HELP! :) I am a new sewer and am trying to use the hand-me-down White machine that I got from my mom. IT works great for a while, but then the bottom side ends up with really long loops of thread and causes the machine to bind. I've adjusted the tention on the top thread and the tention on the bobbin but it just seems to keep doing this. I've cleaned all of the dust and lint out of the works, both under the top and under the plate as well as oiling everything that the manual suggested.

I don't know the model of the machine at the moment, but it is a 'jeans machine'; it has a removable storage area so that you can sew cuffs very easily. I think that it's a great machine, I just want to be able to use it for more than 3-4 minutes at a time.

Thanks, Erik Olsen

First FLOSS the tension disks with some buttonhole twist thread! Then give it a new needle! Make sure no lint is between those disks! Then make sure that the upper thread is properly between the tension disks and is in the loop of the take-up lever (the 'nodding donkey' lever on the front of the machine by the tension). Also ensure that the bobbin thread is in the bobbin case spring!

Start every project with a new needle of the correct type and size for the fabric and thread you are using - it's amaising what a difference this makes!

You should also find a fault-finding section in the manual that may help.

It sounds to me as if you may not be threading the bobbin correctly. Make sure you are catching the bobbin thread in the tension spring.
