#2 Morse taper drill chuck.. keyless or keyed?

I use a keyless on my DeWalt drill all the time and have no problems working the tightening/loosening action. Does anyone have a preference as it pertains to the lathe?

Thanks very much.

Personal preference... keyed for the lathe. I think that there may be more torque applied to the drill bit and chuck when the work is spinning, rather than the other way round. A keyed chuck can let you lock-in the bit with a lot more pressure than the keyless.

I second the vote for a keyed jacobs chuck on the lathe. I have a keyless chuck, and that very thing happened -- too much torque while drilling a weedpot. The drill bit caught, and it took a lot of muscle power to get the bit out. Now when I turn the chuck, I can feel internally where it catches.

My next jacobs chuck was keyed.
