Anyone turn palm tree wood??

Is palm tree wood good for turning??? I have access to some and I'm unsure if it's worth the effort to go pick it up. Dennis

Hi Dennis, In Florida, Seminoles and beach hotels use palm fronds for thatch and millionares enjoy hearts of palm salads, but where the palm tree grows there is always plenty of better wood to turn or burn. Florida is the 'land of the outstretched palm' as visitors to Orlando are about to find out. Actually, Orlando prices aren't any worse than in any other urban vacation area.

I hope everyone attending the AAW National Symposium has a fine old time, learns a lot, makes many new friends and returns safely home.with refreshed enthusiasm, That hoped, IMHO citrus turns better than palm. Arch

Are you going to attend Arch? If so, please come say hello. I will be one of the demonstrators. You know, one of the other demonstrators. Not the big names, or the other names you may have heard of, just one of the other demonstrators...

In fact, this is an open invitation to all who are going. Please say hello if you see me. Putting names to faces is nice.

O.K. Arch how does citrus turn, is it like apple wood or more like Sycamore, how is the grain appeal as in eye appeal, and warping- cracking more or less than average, never seen or turned citrus wood but you never know how one runs into it (ouch)(G)Does it smell nice ??

Have fun take care Leo Van Der Loo

I like lemmon - pretty wood, turns nicely, it's fine grained and reasonably hard. nice yellow color. it's more fine grained than sycamore. never turned apple so on opinion there.
