Penn State Mini Chuck

I just got a Jet mini-lathe (1014VS) for xmas and am looking to get a chuck. I'm new to turning so I don't know a whole lot about the different brands. I have seen the Nova and Vicmarc's but not sure if I can afford those right now. Penn State has a set for about $105US

that includes threesets fo jaws and a bowl adapter for an additional $37. Does anybodyhave any experience with this chuck and is it worth the smallerinvestment? Thanks

If you're turning anything larger than a spool of thread, you won't like it for long. After a week of using mine I bought a Talon and hae never regretted it.

A chuck is a luxury it's just slower without one. Wood turners did just fine for thousands of years without chucks.Almost anything that can be turned in a chuck can be turned on a face plate. If your short of money save it for gouges, parting tools and scrapers, books and classes.

If you want a bigger chuck that will do just "chucking" you would probably like the Penn State $45 4 jaw chuck. I have it and I think it works great. Comes with a screw chuck adapter. Just no accessories.
