Where can I get a JET Bed Extension #708355

I see where Jet Lathe #1014 lathe sells for $200 and appears to be a decent lathe but is only 14" spindle length. The problem is the bed extension JET

708355 which sells for $50-$60 isn't available until Nov 2004, at lest according to Amazon, and every other supplier seems to point.back to Amazon for availability. What am I missing here?

Are there any other entry level lathes in the $250 range?

Thanks for any help

Sorry Bob.... None of these work. What happens is when you go to the web sites and click on the "order button" it takes you directly to Amazon. And if you order from them it says a delivery date of Nov 2004. I can't wait one year to use a JET Lathe....

Thanks for trying

Mr. P...... You might have come to the rescue. I emailed them and asked if it is currently available. I guess we shall see. I thank you for your effort and will let you know. It is my impression that the newer JET lathes don't need the additional retrofit.

I just checked Woodcrafts web site and they say they will have the extention available after 12/10/2003 - a little better delivery. BTW - The jet mini is a very good lathe for items up to 9" in diameter.

Hope this helps. LOL

I am turning 18" and longer so don't really want to practice for a year. Glad to hear you like yours. Are you bolting yours down or not? How easy is it to change speeds?

Bruce- Thanks for your help. I also emailed Woodcrafts and will see what they tell me. I am always leery of promises of 12/10/03 then its "sorry, now it's 4/15/2004.... you know how that goes. Have some other emails out also. Really want to buy from someone who will guarantee me delivery. How do you like your lathe????

Just went thru the whole process up to where you enter your credit card number and it say's ships in 1 to 2 weeks. Nothing about being out of stock to that point.

Yesterday I went thru the whole Amazon process even actually ordering both the lathe and this extension. The final invoice to me said that it would ship in two packages.... the lathe would arrive in about a week and the extension would ship separetly and expect arrival in NOV 2004.... this is what it said ... so I cancelled order until I can figure out what is going on. Today when I went through the same process it said that the extension may not be delivered until after Dec 25 but didn't say when.. so sounds a little fishy to me. All I want is this lathe and extension ..... LOL

Why would you have to wait a year? The Jet mini is emminently useable with 14" between centers. Granted you can't turn anything longer than

14", but you can certainly _use_ the lathe to learn and practice on. And unless you're an experienced turner already, there *is* that little matter of the learning curve...

I've been turning with mine for over two years now, and seem to be having pretty good luck with it.

I own the Delta Midi and love it. Although it has a 10in swing compared to the 12in of the Jet, I bought mine for $299 at MLCS, got the bed extension for free and also got a Delta wet sharpening system free. With the extension, I can turn spindles up to 37in. The unit is quiet, smooth, easy to change speeds (6) via the belt and has surprising power for the 1/2 100v motor. I highly recommend it.

I bought a Jet Mini, with extension, a couple of months ago, and have no use for the extension. Where are you located? Maybe we could work something out if you're interested in it.

I am very happy with my mini. It is very solid. (Mine is the Older version, before Variable speed) I turn items with diameters up to 9" and length to 13". Some (actually, most) of it is "out of round". I set it on my workbench and use two bench dogs on the lee side (The side away from me) I brace the drive end against a board held in place by the end vise. With just this to hold it in place, I have never had a problem with it bouncing and moving around.

Ah, I didn't know if you'd been turning at all or not. I like mine a lot. I've been turning almost every day for about 14 months now, but I'm more than ready to move on to something bigger, with more horsepower and definitely a bigger swing.

No, it's not bolted down, and I turn chunks as large as the lathe can accomodate.

Pretty easy to change speeds...I've been doing it long enough so it only takes a few seconds.

Ron, I am near Tacoma, WA and just bought the Jet Mini this afternoon. Are you close. I don't want to eat up in shipping what I might gain in savings
