Hi Darlene

My NYCO is a pair of socks done in a baby rib, from the Sensational Socks book.

Hi Darlene,

I started a sweater at the end of last month using the Noro Silk Garden which I received for Christmas. Please add it to your list :-) Thanks!

You missed me, Darlene, and I am doing a scarf, which I started before I went to bed after welcoming the New Year.

New Year's Cast On (NYCO) is a project we propose to do for ourselves during the next year - idea is to cast on the project on New Year's Day but anytime soon would probably qualify - we find that we often get so involved making things for others that we don't get around to making something fun for ourselves. (Mine is a shawl made from yummy mohair/silk yarn my son gave me for Christmas) Darlene in Toronto - known here as Craftkitten - keeps track of it on a data base and we report in when complete. The idea is to get done before next year but that doesn't always happen.

Hi Sue, I'm only at the "drooling" stage (or covet, take your pick) of Noro Silk Garden. How is it to work with? I even cut the color samples out of the Halcyon Yarn catalog and put it in my "ideas" knitting book for inspiration - inspiration to finish enough projects so that I can justify buying more yarn! (also inspiration to get a job so that I can PAY FOR more yarn!) Susan K

My only problem with Silk Garden is that there often are little slivers or wood or something like that that I end up pulling out. It feels sort of rough in the skein, but once knitted up and washed in a good woolwash, it softens up.

Wow Karen - problems at that price? All I know is that it is drop-dead gorgeous - at least from looking at the photo in the catalog. The Halcyon catalog has a sweater done in entrelac using several of the silk garden colors - it looks wonderful! I would even buy the pattern to do that project, but it will be in the future. Waaaayyy in the future! I guess first I should see if the pattern is free online somewhere...

Has anyone done entrelac, and what was your experience with it?

Susan K hollered out:

I bought one (yes, I had that much willpower to stop at only one) skein of the black/grey/navy to make a hat for my hubby. I've never used an entire ball, down to the last two inches before, but I did with that skein! He loves it, but I will say that it doesn't take kindly to "tinking back". The little curly bits (really soft, though--the silk?) tend to come out of the twist when you rip out too often. Don't ask how I know this. ;-)

Overall, it had a nice hand to it, not too hard or too soft, yet very elastic, which surprised me with such a heavy blend of silk and mohair. I wouldn't say it's "the softest yarn you'll ever touch!" (Herrschners words, not mine), but it was nice. I've been eyeing the Noro Silver Thaw, myself. Much more suitable to my lace knitting fetish.
