Finding errata

Is there an easy (ha, ha) way to find an errata for patterns in a book? I'm am having trouble with a pattern in "New Knits on the Block" by Vickie Howell. (Specifically the mallet and the tool belt pouch) I checked Sterling Publishing Co.'s website, but they only list their books, no corrections.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

TIA

JJ, How about googling the author to see if she has a site, which might have an email address, in which you might email her and ask about errata.... Also, did the publisher's site have a contact us link? (try that!) HTH, Noreen

I transfer the directions to a spreadsheet detailing each stitch i.e., "(p1b, k1) twice, k4" becomes: "pb, k, pb, k, k, k, k, k". I start the spreadsheet using the terminology in the pattern. Then, I copy the expanded pattern, and use an edit/replace function to convert the pattern into a chart with proper knitting symbols. (see for example

) and

like spreadsheets better than word processors for knitting patterns.Knitting patterns are arrays and spreadsheets are optimized for working witharrays.

Then I print the parts that I need, i.e., for swatches to make sure I understand the individual stitch panels or construction details.

Sometimes it is easier to do the actual knitting from the directions. But the chart tells proves the directions are correct, (and that I understand them.).

Is it easy? NO! Nothing about knitting is really easy. If you want easy, go buy off the ready to wear rack. But, this is easier than frogging. And, it assures me that I have thought through the entire design.

They say, "Measure twice, and cut once!"

This suggestion would be great if the directions were correct. In making up the Mallet (in tools) the handle is only 12 rows long. In the picture it shows to be the same length as the Screwdriver which is 12 rows + 1.5 inches. The pictures suggest you make two of each and sew them together, whereas the instructions specifically say "Make one of each"

Thanks, Noreen, I have contacted the publisher.
