More Stash

I went to the Fiber Arts Festival held over the weekend in Valley Forge, PA at the convention center. It was sponsored by the Knit and Crochet Guilds of America.

Money well spent, I think. I saw lots of smiles, and the booths had literal tons of beautiful yarn, books, etc. I got everything I went to get and found a lot that I hadn't known I wanted until I saw it. The prices were very attractive too, especially the Thursday night early-bird specials and the Sunday pack-out $5.00 table and $10.00 table. Now all I need is the time to knit all this. :-)

No.8 perle cotton for $1.00 a ball,

100grams of Meche Rustique (heavy single ply) Welcome Permelle yarn in a glorious red for $2.00 (a felting project, I think), navy blue Yarn County cotton-linen for $10.00 a 12-ounce hank (I got enough for a sweater if I ever knit it), some 2-ply multicolor slubby silk for $5.00 for a 6-ounce hank, Italia brush yarn in gold on black for $5.00 a 150-yard hank, some Sashay eyelash and some Nomotta gold lame furry yarn at 40% off, 100 grams of Regia sock yarn for $8.00 (and one 100gram ball for $2.00)

and other stuff - knitting needles, a brass knitting gauge that goes down to 8-0 for identifying those tiny antique needles, some yarn bobbins, and of course, books and patterns, including _The Opinionated Knitter_.

I should be busy for a while. :-)

I am glad you had a good time there. My friend that I work with was planning to go this past Saturday and browse. But since we live about

1 1/2 hours away and all the rain we had, I am not sure she went. This sounds like something that I would like to attend. Do they hold it there every year? If so, I will try to go next year.

I can imagine how nice it would be to see and feel some of those interesting yarns instead of just seeing them on the web. I'll bet you have tons of ideas spinning in your head on how to use what you have bought! Have fun!

This is the second year they've held the Fiber Arts Festival, and it was successful enough so that I think they'll do it again. Stitches East used to be held there but last year they moved to Atlantic City. There was enough room so that the Fiber Arts show could enlarge significantly and still fit into the space.

I think some people did stay away because of the heavy rain on Saturday. The Paradise Arts and Crafts show upstairs the same weekend suffered a little more from the weather than the Fiber Arts show did, since they had to compete with the rest of the huge King of Prussia mall practically next door.

I do like to check the texture myself. It also helps to be able to turn a hand-painted skein around and see all the colors; that's one thing you can't do on the average website. I also like to flip through the books. And of course with hand-painted yarn, there are so many variations that it would have to be a huge website to show them all. Going to a show is like finding 80 or so LYS all in a row.
