Cripes!

Is it just me who thinks that's an awful lot of money that's been spent on a lot of yarn that isn't doing anything useful? It really does look like a yarn shop rather than one woman's personal stash.

I felt like bowing to the lady! LOL I really *love* those storage shelves she has against the walls though... they look like the type in a lot of yarn shops I've seen. Someday I really want to have one wall (at least) with those types of shelves to store my yarn on. ;o)

Thank you for sharing this with us, Shelagh!

Not just you, VP. An entire room of wall to wall yarn is a bit much... now HALF the room, I could happily live with. LOL Just kidding... full shelves along one wall would be satisfactory for me! :o)

That would depend on your point of view, I have a dozen or so boxes of angora (100%) that I paid $3.00 US dollars a ball for when a LYS closed several years ago. I would much rather have it to use when ever I want than paying $10-$15 for the same yarn now. Perhaps this lady found deals that were too good to pass up also. DA

I saw this on a blog a few days ago! Makes my own stash look small and controllable LOL. The woman that owns this humongous stash shares it with others, spreads the love around LOL. Marie and the cats

Holy cats!! I am impressed. I don't really have a "stash"- I tend to buy as needed rather than accumulate, but when Yarn Lady has their semi-annual Bag Sale in December I'm gonna make an exception - other than sock yarn, and we all know that sock yarn doesn't count

Yarn that has a pattern and an intent to make something specific doesn't count either -- just all the balls of yarn that somehow managed to come home with me just because they were on sale, or were a specially yummy color, or felt too good to leave on the shelf. Leftover yarn from a project that has been completed and sent off or worn don't count either of course. See -- my yarn stash isn't really out of control - right? Love that stash -- takes away all the guilt from mine.

That's some stash!

I glanced through the comments, and the ones her husband left about her were so touching. He was completely defending her stash and saying how generous and kind she was.

Oh my mercy! I think she needs to stop "collecting" and spend her time knitting up that yarn! I wonder if I can get written into her will....? ;-)

Boy, mine is paltry too. Not that I'd want to have that much, I feel guilty enough as it is for what I do have now.

I have some yarns I know now I won't use that will be donated to some ladies knitting for charity. It will free up some space in my storage totes for the "good" stuff. ;>)

That is an awful lot of yarn! I can understand why you're speechless Shelagh. When I first saw that site I had to ask the question - WHY - but was unable to come up with any reasonable answer. Is it just me that sees it that way?

It does seem like too much yarn for one person (or even a modest group of people) to use productively in one life time. But although I have a very modest yarn and fibre stash by comparison I do understand the collecting drive - if my vintage pattern collection is considered in terms of patterns alone then I have way too many to possibly knit in the time I have left to live. But that's not how I view my collection

- I see it (and use this line constantly to justify it to DH) as preserving important social history.

Thanks for that VP. I can understand someone preserving something that is likely to deteriorate with time (such as printed items or some garments from a particular era) but that stash didn't seem to fall into that category.

My OH also has the collecting bug which he doesn't suffer from - I do! We have a garage that doesn't have space for the car because it is full of old vinyl/bakelite records - and tapes which replaced the vinyl (plus old players for each medium, none of which work). In the house he has a complete cupboard filled with CD's which have replaced both vinyl and tape. None of them were ever got rid of even although it is years since the originals were replaced with a modern equivalent.

The same applies to old cameras and lenses (none of which work properly either) that he cleared from his Dad's house when the old chap died 15 years ago. If I suggest getting rid of any of them you'd think I'd suggested he should murder his Granny.

Then there are his books and there are enough of them to stock a local library.

I still don't understand it :-(
