Those Lithuanian socks from Nancy Bush's Folk Socks book

...have a striped heel that is so cool. I found myself knitting it slowly, throwing and twisting the alternating colors, and I found the stripes of the heel flap went all zigzaggy on my while creating a beautiful pattern on the reverse of the flap, which of course is on the inside of the sock so no one will ever see it. So on the second sock, which I'm making in reverse colors of the first, I carefully do the throw-with-main-color-pick-with-contrast, and lo and behold the stripes are straight. Probably any number of you could have told me this, but it's interesting to figure out for myself.
