*sigh* Another great idea up in smoke...

Just needed to vent. I had come up with what I thought was an incredibly wonderful, brilliant, clever, ORIGINAL idea. Now I see that someone else has done it way before me. And it's a weird enough thing that there is no way I can do it without it looking like I'm copying the other person. Poop.

Hi Tink , I just got your gorgeous bead today , Thank You !

I gotta say that we are not out here inventing the wheel , but we are here to put a new spin on it . I have ancient stuff , & have to say I've seen folks say , 2 or 3 thousand years later , that it was "their" idea !

You have to go with your creations , & your creativity , & you have to know that it is your special inventiveness that came up with it ! You go Girl !!

Love you , & your art ,

Make what you want and weather the results, sweetness. It is the only way you are going to be truely happy.

As I was moving last December, I found my collection of old skeleton keys. I made a couple of pendants that looked amazingly like the ones on Ki

Key jewelry was in 15 years ago - at least - that I can think of -- so the idea isn't exactly original to her either ! LOL

if you want to make key jewelry - do it - there's no patent, trademark or copyright issue involved... as long as yours are different... Remember - an "IDEA" cannot be copyrighted -- only the copying exactly of a design or original work.... then again - I didn't particularly find the piece appealing... Tink - I am hearing a continuing thread here - (no pun intended.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but see if this sounds accurate: making beads / glass slinging = happiness happiness = guilt photographing, selling, shipping, etc = unhappiness

Now, if I have that correct, maybe you should run with that premise and ask yourself if it's really making sense to hang onto the control of the stuff you don't like to do? It's ok for you to do what you enjoy. Maybe, just maybe, there is someone close by who gets as much happiness out of the number crunching kind of selling busywork as you get out of melting stuff. It's really possible! I don't think you should have to be anything but happy, doing the work you like to do and, I might add, the work you are so good at and obviously suited for!

Just my opinion.

Live and be well, Christy

Why don't you go ahead and try it anyway? Individual differences being what they are, it might come out looking completely different.

I think key-based jewelry -could- be very appealing. I'd love to see what you were thinking of, Tink. And I can imagine giving it a whirl myself sometime.

Think about what strikingly different work the population of this list comes up with, when essentially we are all working with glass, metal and fibers most of the time. Some stone, some organic stuff, some ceramic. The medium isn't really the message until some -person- translates it through their own individual sensibility, is it?

Wow. This thread has given me LOTS of food for thought. Thanks to everyone for responding! I sure would love to find someone to do the selling and shipping, too. I'll have to give that idea some time to germinate.

Yes. I will do some keys. And I've gotten some other great ideas from thinking that over, too.

If I can stop playing with my puppy long enough to do ANYTHING, that is. LOL!

I didn't like the way Ms. Ballor did it. It was overdesigned. (Knowing When To Stop -- again) All that wire and crap, and the bead wasn't the right color to go with the aged metal (lime green?>

yeah - twins separated at birth - that's us- my EXACT feelings about the piece! LOL Cheryl of DRAGON BEADS Flameworked beads and glass

Tink,

I was reading through a bunch of old posts (I have less than 1200 still not marked read yet, dating back to the first of July) and I ran across your post about key jewelry. I visited KIm Ballor's website to look at the key you mentioned (

) and the idea and adorable.I could see why you were disappointed, but I could also see severalother interpretations of the idea without even trying -- and I don'tconsider myself terribly creative (well, not in that way.I say, "Go for it!" Put your own spin on the idea. Make it a "TinkOriginal." Be sure to show us what you come up with! Jewitch
