Need Advice for a gift

Aloha everyone. I know some of you mothers and grandmothers in here have been through a graduation or two. What is a good graduation gift for a high schooler? I am going to make her a card but wanted to get her something that is appropriate for the occasion and I am stumped. Any ideas?

that depends on whether the grad is going on to college (if so what is his/her major going to be?) or heading into the work place.

If heading on to college, how about a prepaid visa/mastercard for a pizza party or books?

If heading to the work place, how about a briefcase or a gift card to Macy's/Dillards/Target? So they can get an interview outfit?

I know I headed into the workforce and my favorite grandmother gave me a briefcase that I still have and use.

Just my ideas, Kate

Are you looking for store bought items or handmade items to give as a gift.

Store bought items I would recommend gift cards if they are going to college. I know colleges locally here have gift cards that parents can buy so that student can purchase snacks, books and what not on campus. You may want check into that. Even if they are not going to college gift cards always work out great.

For a handmade item I would suggest a small scrapbook highlighting their accomplishments over the years (Kindergarten graduation, school parties/dances, prom, if they were in any sports) highlight something from each school year.

Just some thoughts.

Gift cards.... they are so handy and you can find one to just about any where now a days. I can't just give gift cards though... I ususally make something yummy and make up a cute bag with the goodies in it and attach the gift card. Funny though last Christmas I made these chocolate covered pretzels, which the adults and kids were drooling over. Only one of the teenage cousins doesn't like chocolate. They did the gift giving a little bit different and had the kids draw names and choose a gift. She ended up with my chocolate covered pretzels AND gift card. She thought she only got the pretzels. No hiding her disappointment and her mom was trying to make her be more cheery and say thank you. My daughter picked the other chocolate pretzel gift. She knew there was a gift card, but didn't know to where. She opened hers immediately and yelled "Yeah cool gift card." My little cousin saw that and said, "What there's a gift card?!" Opened it and was immediately much happier. I guess all the kids (except mine) thought I giving them chocolate covered pretzels for the gift exchange.
