Why Webshots?

Why do so many on here use Webshots to upload your pictures? Being on dial-up, I find that site so bloated and slow, it seems to take twice as long to load than it would if it were just the image alone. But, I might be the only one here still on dial-up so maybe it's not an issue for anyone else.

I'm on dial-up. I use webshots because that was the site I was most familiar with when I wanted to upload images of my albums. Can't judge its speed compared to other online photo storage sites since I haven't tried uploading to any others. Am downloading a couple hundred from a relative whose also using websthots & I've been doing it at work on a high speed connection. Much faster than dial-up.

Because it's convenient and it lets you store full-sized photo files and doesn't chop them down unless you tell it to. And you can get your photos OUT again in a usable form, or even buy prints if you so choose. I loathe the yahoo photo albums... But mostly because I like their photo manager that does all the work for you. Where else can you upload a set of 100 photos at a time?

Is there one you like better for accessing via a dial-up connection, Luna? If so, what is it & what are its advantages?

Until I bought a pc and could upload myself, I could have some one who had a scanner upload pics for me, I could go in and edit them or whatever. I still use WEBTV to view group and for email as it is easier and safer!!

Now what i found out was once you "buy" one of their program plans, the pop ups, junk emails and all around trash go away which GREATLY improves their viewing or upload speed and surroundings. So that may be a consideration of something too.

It's hugely faster... I have plenty of webspace and I was always going to do my own gallery, but its so much work that I could never manage to keep it current! I used a program called thumbsplus that automated almost all the work for me, but it still took time to make sure that it was right and to upload everything. With webshots you just open the photo manager, open the directory you want to upload from, and click away... it does everything else once you hit 'upload', while you go about your day secure in the knowledge that it should work out.

I also like photobucket because it assigns every photo an image url, web address and tag... I guess I use webshots more simply because "the Joneses" do. But I hate the whole webshots desk software it makes you download... I never use that stuff and don't want the screensavers either. photobucket doesn't offer that, it's strictly off site. I guess, in exploring this I'd have to say I really prefer photobucket to webshots but webshots is the one I use for this newsgroup. :)

I was under the impression that the main reason everyone used webshots was because it's free. I remember when it seemed like nearly everyone here had a picturetrail album. Then they went to pay and a lot moved over to webshots. I chose webshots because I don't know anything whatsoever about any of the others and I noticed that a few here talked about how easy it is to use. Personally, I'm surprised at how easy it actually is. I've only scanned and loaded though. I don't have a digi camera. I'm not on dial up either.

I don't have any webshot software on my PC anymore. I just log into the site and do things from there. I'm not sure if that is only available if you pay for webshots, as I pay to have all the extra storage and store my backup photos there in private albums. All I know is that I got rid of the pc portion of the software a while back.

I didn't download any of the software that came with the use of webshots. I just go to the website to do what I need. Sandy

I have never had to or been offered, prided to download anything form hem. Just received their constant bantering to do so before I paid for te premium service. I now just have to click on a link if I want the stuff. Maybe there are other levels being offered now or more garbage to irritate ya with the free part?

I use Easy Thumb

and WS FTP Pro. It takes only a few seconds to create thumbnails and generate the html and then I just drag the files into WS FTP Pro and it uploads them. I prefer the basic html approach because I hate ads and pop ups.

I actually like their screensaver and screen background option and download their 'pictures of the day' once a month so that I've got a nice supply of high quality images. I started using that part of webshots long before I ever made myself a photo album, back while it was still a totally free unlimited service! When they went to pay, I said 'stuff that' and deleted my albums in protest, but eventually I went back to them and paid for the storage space.

I use picturetrail for my online photo storage. I do pay a yearly fee for this though. I've had my account for about 4 years now and it's actually due for renewal this month. I prefer it over any of the others most people use, including photobucket. I had a photobucket account and we just didn't get along...... ;o)

I actually use Yahoo photos. It's free with our email account, which is always a perk. LOL Yahoo changed things, and now I'm trying to figure out the new gizmos and gadgets. But it doesn't require me to download any software and it doesn't put adware or anything on the computer, either.
