G'day Phae

Schmetz make those.....I have a couple of packs that came with my Janome CoverStitch Machine and would assume any Schmetz supplier would be able to get them.

Have you tried ebay.com? or one of the needle co-ops?

I've searched the entire internet and cannot find a single reference to them.

Ron should be able to tell you - and probably supply them for you. He's our hero.

I second That. He's reasonable and gets things out yesterday, sometimes even the day before yesterday. Juno

OK group, After much research this is what I have found out. The ELX705 needle system is specially designed for cover stitch machines. Has a long grove on both the front and back as well as a slightly larger scarf and a light ball point. The CF stands for Chrome finish, this should reduce heat and wear and aid in slipping through the fabric slightly. Not sure it is worth the extra $1.00 per pack or not. As always I suggest if the manufacturer suggests it then it is in your best interest to use it. The machine manufacturer makes not one cent on the needles you purchase after you buy the machine. In fact they themselves have to pay more for those needles that they include with it new. Hope I helped clear this up a bit

You are a prince! Thank you so much for looking into that for me. That makes sense if you are using the machine at high speed for long periods--- something I can't personally imagine doing very much with a coverstitch. But I certainly do a lot of ordinary overlocking at top speed for long periods. Ron, is the ELx705 CF a Schmetz or an Organ needle? Or do they both make it?

I can't help but wonder why Babylock says to use a coverstitch needle on the Evolve even when not coverstitching.

The CF is Schmetz only it is not a cover stitch per se, as much a specially designed for these new machines. That long grove in the back as well as the larger scarf is very important. if the loopers contact the needles due to a smaller scarf you just bought many many boxes of needles.

CF is not a Schmetz term I know, but it looks like Ron may have some ideas for you. Schmetz's own list of carded needles doesn't mention Elx705CF, but does the plain:

My experiences with Pam (Kapres) have been very good... and she alsoruns a needle coop page for rare needles. Kay

Thanks, Kay. :) I am mystified that that CF needle is specifically recommended by Babylock, actually came with the machine, but no one stocks them. I know that many people have Evolves and I wonder what they use in their machines.

Thanks for clearing that up Ron. Four packets of Schmetz needles came with my Coverstitch machine and they aren't marked CF and there is no reference to CF in the manual either. I know I won't forget what the CF means now, anyway.....good to learn something new each day.

Thanks aga> The CF is Schmetz only
